Allen Sniffen says Al Bernstein terminated at WLTW

End of an era at Lite FM. Almost all the original talent at Lite FM is gone with only one person surviving the carnage. Robin Taylor dead. Steve Roy, Bill Buchner, JJ Kennedy and now Bernstein all terminated. It's a crying shame but the exodus is now complete with only Valerie Smaldone surviving. The question now is who inherits Bernstein's time slot? Jack Kratoville, Victor Sosa promoted from overnight, someone else, or a schedule adjustment with Valerie taking over at 9, Kaminski at 2, and Delilah sliding up to 7?

Maybe Valerie can do what CC is doing in a couple other markets including Chicago - do her shift live and then do Al's shift voicetracked!

Maybe Lite FM is searching Altoona or Omaha for some cheap jocks! That's the clear channel plan!

You don't exactly need another Dan Ingram to execute the Lite format.

No, you need warm, friendly-sounding jocks who can make the audience feel comfortable. All the original talent was great at that. It was the only reason for me listening to the station -- it's small, stale playlist aside.

What all of this really shows is just how much poor Jim Ryan has lost his power within Clear Channel. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. [Insert sarcastic laughter here...]

Let's hope he doesn't get the "Hogan deal" like so many others who were given a month or two against years of employment, only to be told that they were not employed by cheap channel for more than a few years....technically....so why don't you just settle for it and move on.

Al is a good guy who most likely is getting clipped so some fatass PD can keep his half-mil a year gig. Wonder who that could be? The brainiac who put Whoopi on in mornings and killed a few major market stations in the process.

As far as "not exactly having to be Dan Ingram to execute that format", all one need do is listen to Smaldone and the thesis is proven.

What's next after Al Bernstein, Valerie Smaldone, is she going to be out at Lite-FM? Will see! ::)

I know if I were in her shoes, I'd be looking over my shoulder... At least she has that Broadway thing she can fall back on...

Damn shame.

Although I was never a LITE-FM listener, I could tell how familiar, appealing and close to home, those voices were. Bill Buchner, JJ Kennedy, Al Bernstein, Stephen Roy.

What's next? "Have Lunch With Whoopi" middays? :)

I hope their ratings continue to dive.

What an idea! do you mean some jocks make enough $$$ in radio to actually retire? plus I thought most jocks need to remain on the air due to ego till they drop dead at the board/mike!

Some just decide to call it quits because they want to spend more time with their family. Harry Harrison, for instance. Ron Lundy was another one.

Worked with Al at WYNY in the day, and at WKHK. A really good guy. Hope it's retirement for you, Al!

WKHK was the precursor to WLTW. Bernie better receive some special incentives in his package just for that alone!

And since the poster brought up WYNY, I'll share this funny story of a phone bit I heard on WYNY, the jock (may have been "Earlyriser", who knows) told a female listener she won a contest or something, then asks what her favorite station is, and her reply: "Well, I used to listen to 106 until they kicked it off the air." LOL!

Believe it or not, not all long Clear Channel daytime airshifts have any voicetracking...there's one CC jock on the East Coast that has a live seven hour airshift!

Here are some lists of the people has finally let go from "Lite-FM"

1. Steven E. Roy
2. Bill Buckner
3. JJ Kennedy
4. Al Bernstein

What's next for WLTW? I would like to see Valerie Smaldone going out of the station perhaps one day. Valerie has been on "Lite-FM" forever. If there's going to be some competition between "Lite" and "Fresh", you'll never know.

Out in Chicago, "Fresh" is on at 105.9 last week, but it does the same as it did on 102.7. I guess two other stations in both New York and Chicago are carried the "Fresh" moniker. Maybe other "Fresh" stations will be carrying in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas and some cities are planning to do "Fresh" in the near future. CBS will be ready to take "Fresh" to a whole new level.

Boy, that's a little harsh, don't you think? Are you auditioning for a position in Clear Channel upper management?

No kidding...what is the axe that Disneyfanatic has to grind with Ms. Smaldone? She happens to be a great jock.
