Aloha dance music radio in Hawaii, Aloha HI "Energy"

Well, if you were hoping that dance music would return to the airwaves of Honolulu, HI, you can forget it. There was an LPFM dance station there called “Energy 101” (KXRG-LP 101.1.) In July of 2007, they were knocked off the air by a full power commercial station, KORL-FM, which was granted the same frequency. (For those who don’t know, low power FMs (LPFMs) must give way to full power stations.) KXRG-LP applied for an extention for a CP to find a new frequency. That has run out as of January 25, 2009, and all reports indicate that there is no KXRG on the air there now.

I have been following this closely, and, from what I can gather, after the station was shuttered, it fell apart. It was mostly staffed by volunteers.

A visit to the station’s website, www.myhienergy.com, shows the same page they’ve had up since July 2007.

It is a sad day for dance music fans in Hawaii, indeed, and this is one more defeat for dance music radio in the history books.

I've never been a fan of LPFM so it comes as no surprise. The only guy on the boards who used to really be passionate about its supposed potential was Richard Dalton.
