Also on OCT. 27, the return of Rusty Shoop to Bakersfield TV

According to this news article, http://www.bakersfield.com/hourly_news/story/588728.html Mr. Shoop will land at KERO/ABC23. Interestingly, Shoop is taking the weathercaster position left vacant by the departure of Lloyd Lindsay Young. For those who've been around the Bakersfield media market for decades, they may recall that Rusty Shoop originally debuted on Bakersfield TV as a weatherman, at none other than KERO-TV! If memory serves correct, Mr. Shoop performed his original KERO weatherman duties alongside another legendary local news icon, the irreplaceable anchorman, Burliegh Smith.

It's great to see the return of the "warmer" and personable talent that is Rusty Shoop at KERO. Lloyd Lindsay Young was just too eccentric, spastic, and manic to be taken seriously as a credible source of legitimate news and weather information. With Rusty Shoop on board at KERO, TV23 will undoubtedly recapture some viewers that defected during the Lloyd Lindsay Young campaign. By the way, does anyone know if Lloyd Lindsay Young actually landed a television gig in Sacramento? If so, where did he land? More importantly, if he *did* secure a TV gig, *how* did he do it? Surely someone must be responsible for viewing airchecks of his previous work!

Welcome back Rusty!

Rusty Shoop, has often been herd on Bakersfield radio; including KNZR, so including Rusty is relevant.
Rusty more and likely be herd on Bakersfield radio again, perhaps providing live weather updates on KNZR.
While this board covers primarily radio, it also has television sections, some more active than others

I agree with Wolf.
Welcome Back Rusty!

I always thought this website pertains to radio only, NOT television.

I seriously considered authoring this topic on the California TV board instead of this one, but changed my mind at the last minute as I presumed that the Central California board would be more location-relevant than a statewide TV board for a topic that wasn't necessarily statewide. I figured more board readers that knew or cared about a Bakersfield-based TV personality would be found here. If a board for Central California TV or Central Valley TV were available, I would certainly have inserted my comments in those areas. It sounds like I made an incorrect judgment, and next time will try to be more mindful of not mixing up TV topics with Radio topics. DanielBoone is absolutely correct--this is a RADIO board, not TV. My apologies for my violation of this board's policies.

I gotta give props to Steve for taking my side and trying to connect the dots with Rusty Shoop's radio career to his TV career, but honestly, I wasn't even aware of Shoop's radio work. I was simply (and excitedly) wanting to share the good news of Shoop's return to the (TV) airwaves of the Bakersfield market.

On ABC23's early evening newscasts last Friday, Rusty Shoop was warmly handed the weathercaster duties from fellow KERO weathercaster Melissa Vreeman who introduced Shoop as the new weathercaster effective Monday October 27th. Shoop then went on to discuss a little bit about himself and his new assignment, then cool-ly and professionally continued on and delivered the day's weathercast as if he'd never left the chair to begin with all those years ago. As Shoop has courageously bounced back from a debilitating and life-threatening illness that nearly took his life, I know I'm not alone in welcoming him back to the (TV) airwaves and wish him nothing but the best going forward.

Hah,

Good to see him back.

Back when I was just a wee child, he used to do live remote weathercasts throughout the commnunity.

One time, he even did one at our farm.. I remember it vividly..it was corn season.

I was the coolest 1st grader.
