Just noticed in the 9 p.m. legal ID that they’ve now added the word “rock” at the end. They used to say “Alt 103-7 - DFW’s New Alternative”, then “new” was dropped. Now it’s “Alt 103-7 - DFW’s Alternative Rock”.

Anyways, they’re playing my kind of tunes. They’ve totally been killing it lately! Just sang my lungs out on the way to Target with the Toadies - Possum Kingdom, followed by The Killers - Mr. Brightside. I’m really digging the music mix they have lately.

I personally have never liked 103.7, just like I didn’t like 102.1 the Edge. Ever since I discovered KXT and KTCU, there was no need for me to listen to a much, much smaller playlist with commercials. They don’t have a completely identical playlist, but there is quite a bit shared between them. Now, if I want the slightly harder Alt rock stuff, I can listen to 88.1, which has almost exactly the same playlist as 103.7 but with no commercials.

I figured that KVIL was going to gradually rebrand as an Active/Alternative hybrid, and this is further indication of that direction. It's the best way to stave off future competition. They're emphasizing the "rock" aspect in the imaging, probably for the benefit of the migrated KEGL listeners. And they are making sure that they have a core KEGL song or two in every set, mixed with more typical Alternative.

The next steps would be to find currents that work in the vein of KPNT (still the gold standard for this style of Alternative), so the music remains a consistent mixture of fresh songs and classic favorites, and hire some personalities to further breathe life into the station. Iain is great but he can't carry the station by himself, especially since they're syndicating him out to other markets now.

This is me purely spitballing, but I would promote Iain to mornings and hire personalities for mid-day and afternoons. I would leave Kevin Kinney in nights for now, especially since it seems that Audacy is overall happy with him being syndicated out to all of their stations. That way the emphasis on the music that has been working so well remains, but the station feels more alive and less automated to the listener.

People aren't dumb. Such a slight change in wording isn't doing anything. Alt is the ONLY thing that a past Eagle listener may listen to with any frequency. They know it's there and they know what it is. Alt plays way too much gold. You've got Country, sports, pop, latin and about a dozen stations that play Billy Idol, Berlin, Eagles, ZZ Top, Michael Jackson (Which I swear is a current on 3 stations.) and anything else that's been played to death.

I heard MASTER OF PUPPETS on KLUV the other day though. I nearly drove off the road.
KLUV does not play Metallica JACK and KZPS do.

And also The Zoo on Vokal Media

Master Of Puppets is getting airplay on stations that don't normally play Metallica (or at least the classic pre-Black Album era Metallica) thanks to the usage of that song in the most recent season of Stanger Things. i bet it got airplay on Kiss FM as of late too.
Yeah but KLUV doesn’t play Metallica, where did this guy get his info from?

NOT A SINGLE STATION in the Dallas market has a monitored spin of Master of Puppets in the past seven days. Nor did any Classic Hits station in the country play the song.

KJKK and KVIL played multiple Metallica songs. KVIL had one spin of Enter Sandman.

Wonder if the poster knows so little about Metallica that he mixed up which Metallica song was what.

Usually non-rock and non-classic rock stations stick to material from the black album. Even many classic rock stations, if they play Metallica at all, will only play tracks from the black album. "Enter Sandman," "Sad but True" and "Nothing Else Matters" are considered the safest tracks.

Probably the Kiss FM in San Antonio
yeah, that's true, but i was talking about 106.1, and i was mentioning them as reference to the fact Stranger Things made "Master of Puppets" a hit again and possibly may had made it chart in top 40 charts in 2022 instead of 1986, the year that album (that the title track song is from) was it was released.
