Alt Buffalo Flips To Country 107.7/104.7 The Wolf

There is no definable difference for listeners.

I can see both playlists and they're not playing the exact same music.

The Wolf is playing a bunch of songs in heavy that WYRK isn't playing at all.

The duet with Jimmie Allen & Brad Paisley or FGL & Nelly or Tic Toc star Priscilla Block. These songs are getting 60 spins a week on The Wolf and no spins at all on WYRK. There are enough songs for two current country stations to not duplicate playlists. I can see them doing the exact same playbook that you and John Casciani did 25 years ago. Except with the resources of a national company.

This station seems to be being programed by former WNUC PD Chris Adkins, he always wanted to program WNUC with "60 in a row" and he loved to attack YRK, Have you noticed the voice over guys name is "Clay" I wish Buddy owned this station, he would run this station right.
Does Val go to WLKK or 97Rock?
Is Clay the Janet of kiss?
Clay is a great talent, Janet is a hag the belongs on WHTT
Shannon and Ricky Jay in the mornings??

They should of named the station “The Farm” There is nothing more country than farmers, with paid named local jocks like Jenny Light, Bud Weiser, John Deere, etc. huge revenue opportunity! If the station , or any others come to sale, I will buy them. Right now, no stations are selling anything. I know why. They are waiting for bankruptcy, I’ll get em then.
So, you're saying that farmers are nothing but stupid hicks? Maybe Cow Patty and Corn Pone can host mornings. Even rural folks aren't totally ignorant.

Entercom/Audacy has really "stepped in it" with this format choice. It will "shave" no revenue from anyone. That's another Pipe Dream. There's no demand for a 2nd Country format like this. You will see that play out. The 107.7 signal is now worthless, so you may indeed get it someday...

How did I say farmers are stupid hicks? I have a bumber sticker on my truck that says No Farms No Food. Some of my best friends are farmers in Wyoming and Genesee Counties. Nobody works harder than farmers.

Naming the jocks is for ad sponsorship. The county audience tends to like the products I mention.

You must be saying this just to piss me off.

and yes, it will shave local direct dollars from YRK, if it is sold properly.

I know exactly what I would do with this station and it would include none of what NUC did. The station was taken over by some wannabe country amateurs on air. They killed it. It was run horribly. It’s the reason I left there because I could not bare to see how employees were using that station as their own personal fun hobby. There was zero control. When I left, it was announced 10 months later that they were selling to Adelphia

I speak to John to this day, and he tells me the worst decision he ever made was to not let me run that station. Because I would have fired the whole staff who were taking advantage of him and his station.

John is a very good man, and trusted the wrong people. I was very honored to work for him, as work is what I did there, full time sales and full time on air, at the same time.

I have reading posts and listening sporadically to Wolf. They are a bit younger it would seem. Problem is, young people are not listening to radio, despite what Nielson says. Ask a young person. They don’t listen! Traditional or Gold base would have been a far batter choice,,here on The Farm.

Purely anecdotal evidence, it would seem to me. How is Nielsen getting it wrong, and why? Is there some sinister "Deep Nielsen" at work there seeing to it that the advertising agencies are continually fed disinformation about who is listening to radio?

Not possible because you aren't there to show them how.

A disc jockey named Bud Weiser or John Deere on a Country station is rather lame. Sort of like bad High School Radio. I really doubt that John Deere would be swayed to advertise because a jock is using that name. The Wolf is going to have to prove it is reaching an audience before any advertisers get on board. Advertisers that buy the other stations will just get free spots on 107.7. The old "Added Value" pitch...

I doubt it. They didn't make this kind of change for free spots.
Audacy just terminated the afternoon guy at KISS. It seems unlikely that anyone will be hired for The Wolf given the recent round of layoffs. This is about cost cutting, not investment or revenue creation...

CHR is cold, country is hot. I wouldn't rule out hiring for Wolf so quickly.

on air names like Leapin Lia, Tad Pole and Danger Frog are lame too. My friends name as a news director for a Froggy station in PA was Tom Croakaw..... listeners thought that was his real name. Froggy stations that forever owns are general;ly fairly well rated...... so familiarity breeds regular listening and it must work

Ahhh, the Pig and Froggy 'house names,' like Chris P. Bacon (say it aloud), Lilly Padd, Crystal Lake, Sonny Day, Duck Walker, Chuck Roast, Chuck Wagoner, Charley Horse, Jackie Daniels (serves male and female), Jimmy Beam and Heather Feather.

Ol' Gordon Brown was way ahead of his time at WSAY and WNIA.

We radio people and radio fans over think things.. and refuse to realize most average listeners dont know what we do or think like we do... im not saying theyre dumb, they arent... but they dont care about the same stuff we do.

TTBOMK there is only one Froggy station in the entire Audacy chain, and it's KFRG K-Frog in San Bernardino-Riverside. It's leftover from the CBS days. I doubt Entercom would ever go that route. They don't howl a lot on the Audacy wolves. No carnivorous names that I'm aware of.

The Wolf runs sweepers with a howling sound effect. Sounds like a sickly rabid animal. Don't know what Audacy Country jocks are using for names...

107.9 The Bull (KTIC) in West Point Nebraska uses an animal sound effect on air.. can you guess what kind?:)

That's funny. Sounds like something that came off an Audio Fidelity Stereodisc sound effects record in the 70s where some studio guy tries to sound like a wolf. Maybe something the legendary Mel Blanc would come up with on one of his bad days.

I've heard wolves howl in the wild. I've heard a digital recording made of those very same wolves. The 107.7 wolf howl sounds nothing like the real thing, but if it gives an identity for listeners to latch onto, who cares. It works.

BTW, the fake wolf howl is no worse than the hideous and laughable 'tinkling in a bucket' 107.7 used as a sound effect for The Lake.

I don't expect WLKK to have any live local talent. They'll maximize their investment in syndicated talent by clearing as many national spots as possible. If they get local numbers and can sell them, so much the better. In theory, bestowing the "blessings" of "big city talent" on the rubes in WNY will attract the ears of people interested in country music. It's what iHeart did in the majority of its markets, and that's the model that Audiocy is following. The result for iHeart was bankruptcy, restructuring, mass firings, and screwing a lot of investors. We await the results for Audiocy. I'm guessing that the Field family will experience about what the Dickey family experienced with Cumulus.
