América CV Network President/CEO Carlos Vasallo has announced his intent to purchase Spanish News/Talk “Radio Caracol” 1260 WSUA/94.3 W232DX Miami.

WSUA has been operated by Grupo Latino de Radio, a subsidiary of Spanish media conglomerate Prisa, since 2003, but a 2017 application to increase their ownership stake from 25% to 100% was dismissed at their request in February after failing to close. Terms of the sale to Vasallo have not been disclosed as the deal has yet to be filed with the FCC.

Actually the name is Caracol 1260 without the “Radio” which is redundant as Caracol means CAdena RAdial COlombiana. Of course, as a word, caracol means “snail”. In Colombia that network is nearly 70 years old.

It’s still a 2-2 commission, is it not? I don’t believe Biden has nominated a replacement for Pai yet, and Trump never did (he appointed a replacement for the other R commissioner right before checking out).

At worst this sale will be delayed until then. If Rosenworcel becomes confirmed as chair, she has free reign to make the sale a political football. She won’t now for the most obvious of reasons.
