AM 1520 Choice down to News or 80s-90s Country-Renae O'Keefe back on KRKO

Easy boyz..Let's just try to remember and be sensitive to the fact that their are many people on this board that are somewhat over the age of 25. AM won't go the way of the Citizens Band like some think. Even though the equipment part of that market is in a slight decline, as long as the makers are still building receivers for the AM band for auto installation and a bit of home use as well, the dream will live on..THe formats on terestrial radio are exhausted. Whats left and what could work?

Actually that's a good point! Several auto makers are replacing AM in auto sound systems with other modern forms including satellite and Internet-provided content. Ford being one of the makers. If that isn't a signal (pardon the pun) AM is becoming less relevant by the year, I don't know what other sign one needs.

That and the vast majority of sub 30 year old men and women don't tune to AM anymore, let alone remember it exists. There is no denying that AM is going the way of the Hairy-eared dwarf lemur. To be fair however, many of the 55+ male listeners to AM talk could indeed be mistaken for a Hairy-eared something.

I think kudos due to both BillW & AndyS ... each good operators who, if anyone can, COULD make things work in difficult challenging economic times as well as geographical ones. Bill not as affected by the major market proximity as Andy ... but each can teach us a bunch about smaller market success and how to think of solutions that are outside the scope of what is crammed down most chain operations from places like tiny Texas towns that tend to lose Texas/Mexican historic war battles.

It would seem that smaller market MAY be the ripest for protecting the fort ... larger market strategies not doing a ton to differentiate themselves from listening alternatives; and even if they DO have creative ideas ... more often than not are stifled by the consultants, VeePee of this-or-that, or CFO's freaking out about whether shareholders are gonna be pissed that they upped the spin ratio on a Lady Gaga tune.

Good luck with WHATEVER you choose to do with 1520! I'm sure the outcome will be a learning experience (in a good way) for all of us ... ownership of that signal included!
