AM 760 DENVER DID THEY FAIL TO TURN POWER DOWN BELOW 50,000 WATTS FRIDAY NIGHT

"Colorado's Progressive Talk" KKZN AM 760 *seems* to be at 50,000 watts Friday night by a forgivable mistake. Normally they are at 1,000 watts covering the Denver metro and north/south of Denver, even to Santa Fe, NM. They are booming in loud in clear in Vegas even driving under power lines - at 6 on the Grundig G5 signal strength meter. I normally hear KXMB San Diego, tonight, Mark Levin, Doyle are in the background behind the voices of KKZN's Colmes and Sam Seder.

The 50,000 watt KKZN signal at sunrise (with Jay Marvin) goes all over the Southwest. Ironic that I just posted about the huge daytime KKZN signal on the national news/talk board last night, and now tonight they are 50,000 watts.

If you can hear them, reply and state your location....but by the time anyone reads this they will probably revert to nightime operations....

Re: AM 760 DENVER DID THEY FAIL TO TURN POWER DOWN BELOW 50,000 WATTS FRIDAY NIG

I'm about 6-8 miles south-southeast of KFMB's transmitter, and by nulling KFMB, I was able to hear KKZN, although somewhat faint. This was confirmed via their web stream.

At 2am Pacific time, KKZN 760 is still loud and clear with Air America and liberal talk. Now they're running re-runs of Thom Hartmann. It's about 3200 mV/m at 1km in this direction. The entire western US should be getting their signal tonight, anyone else out there w/ a report ?

Because it's a regional, it does fade in and out considerably with KXMB, and the signal strength meter consequentially goes anywhere from 0 to 9, but is usually 6 or above.

It's fun to hear the station, because it happens to be that the PD, Kris Olinger, is one of the best Progressive Talk program directors in the country, and KKZN is one of the best liberal talk stations...

Re: AM 760 DENVER DID THEY FAIL TO TURN POWER DOWN BELOW 50,000 WATTS FRIDAY NIG

I should clarify something. KKZN wasn't exactly "faint", it's just that I was unable, due to close proximity, to completely null KFMB, so at best I could get them to battle each other. Now if only KFMB's talk show host would shut up a little bit longer between sentences/phrases, it'd be a little easier to hear Denver.

Oh, and btw, it's KFMB, not KXMB.

Re: AM 760 DENVER DID THEY FAIL TO TURN POWER DOWN BELOW 50,000 WATTS FRIDAY NIG

Saturday night, KKZN 760 is still operating at daytime operations, 50000 watts, loud in clear in Vegas, with sports programming and Air America liberal shows.

Let us know if you can hear the station. Based on the pattern it should be present in

WA
OR
ID
MOT
WY
UT
CO
NM
TX
AZ
CA
ND
SD
NE
KS
OK
and elsewhere in the eastern US.....

I tried Nulling the Detroit station last night here in Indiana and was able to hear faint voices, yet unable to I.D the station, I suppose it could have been Denver, I surely couldnt hear San Diego here could I? LOL Are their any other Eastern stations on 760 besides Detroit?

There are a few but nothing with much power since everybody has to protect WJR. Here's the official list, in case you want to sort through it for suspects: www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/amq?state=&call...&slat2=&NS=N&dlon2=&mlon2=&slon2=&EW=W&size=9
But FWIW Radio-Locator doesn't show any talkers on 760 at night in the east besides Detroit.

Again, Sunday night, driving around Vegas from sunset to 10pm and KKZN 760 was loud and clear with Air America.

It appears that:

KKZN Boulder's Nightime and Daytime patterns protects Detroit because Detroit is class A, but not San Diego.
KKZN does not have critical hours.

Their Nightime pattern (at only 1kW) protects BOTH Detroit and San Diego.

Try again listening to KKZN tonight and let us know.

Ah, so we have illegal power aliens ("undocumented power
immigrants" for you libs ;D) in markets other than Phoenix.

Perhaps Francis X. Bushman from KFNX 1100 Cave Creek is
consulting KKZN 760 Thornton on "forgetting" to power down
at monthly sunset--which in January for KKZN is 5:00pm MST
(source: FCC AM Query).

Or a dude (his name/handle escapes me at the moment) from
KFNN 1510 Mesa is consulting KKZN on the use of an "automated"
power/pattern change program...which of course never kicks in
at the required time.

I just sampled 760 in Phoenix at 5:50-5:55pm MST and found--
depending on how the radio was turned--KKZN and Kuff-Mubb
fighting it out with about equal signals, neither of which were
as strong as the KKOB blowtorch next door.

Monday Night Update:

Randi Rhodes is getting some ratings in Vegas!

Hundreds are tuning in and will email Air America tomorrow and petition for a station locally!

Let us know where you are. I'm esp. interested in WA/ID/MOT/B.C. and interference with 760's in western Canada.....

WOW, that would represent an 80% increase in the size of her national audience! ;D

Maybe Randi could do a political TV show, that might get better ratings than radio.

Tonight, in Vegas, 760 KKZN is gone, and San Diego's KFMB 760 is on the air as usual.
