AM and SW loggings tonight, some UNIDs on AM, and some faint ones too

Tonight, I went outside and tried DXing AM and SW tonight.

Here's my catches.

AM

650: sounded like CISL had technical problems tonight. Hockey game (possibly Rancho Cordova, CA), and "Independence Day" by Martina McBride were in the mix. KMTI Manti, UT? WSM Nashville? ???

670: something under KBOI but too weak.

700: KXLX Airway Heights loud and clear. (about 4/10 on signal scale)

750: KXL Portland (Rush?), and an unknown country station with Jake Owen's "Don't Think I Can't Love You". KHWY-NV? KERR-MT? ??? ???

760: KFMB San Diego faintly under 770 slop.

780: something under KKOH but didn't sound like WBBM because it was news-talk and not news. ???

820: something very faintly under local KGNW. 820 is strong!

830: KNRO Grass Valley, CA in the clear, no CKKY at ALL! :)

850: KOA loud 'n clear into WA tonight.

910: CKDQ Drumheller, AB in the clear. :)

1610: possible WQBV569 Union Gap, WA under WPKL360 Woodinville, WA. Too weak but sounded like computerized lady under pre-recorded man (WPKL360).

SW

4885: Radio Clube do Para (Belem, Brazil) very faintly but audio was kinda possible.

4985: Radio Brasil Central very faintly too.

5025: Radio Rebelde (Cuba) in the clear.

5050: WWRB in the clear but only carrier possible.

5070: WWCR possible tonight.

5745: WWRB possible. (S-3)

5810: WEWN possible. (Spanish, S-4)

5840: Radio Canada International threshold tonight. (Arabic)

5875: WHRI in the clear.

5890: WWCR in the clear tonight. (Scriptures of America)

5910: Radio Republica very, very faintly.

5920: WBOH possible with sound.

5935: WWCR loud n clear tonight. (S-5)

5950: Radio Taiwan International clear.

5985: Family Radio possible carrier.

6120: Radio Habana Cuba's new frequency! I have not been hearing them on 9550 lately.

6290: Egyptian Radio very faintly (below average).

9690: CRI faintly fading in and out with just a carrier.

9790: CRI extremely strong tonight, booming in!!

11760: Radio Habana Cuba possible with 5/10 signal!

15160: CRI in Chinese to East Asia possible!

15240: Radio Australia with below-average signal.

When I was in Oregon I heard country on 650, couldn't figure out whatever it was KMTI in Utah or Nashville's WSM.

Probably Utah, but too bad you couldn't ID it to be sure.
WSM streams online...if there's a computer nearby (a clean one that isn't making DX impossible  ), compare the audio at http://www.wsmonline.com/ .

That's a great verification advantage that us old time DXers from many years back didn't have.

780 is almost certainly KOH Reno. It's the dominant skywave on that frequency at night in the west and it's news/talk. Thanks to its presence, I've never gotten WBBM west of the Rockies.

I've been told you can still occasionally catch WBBM in Arizona.

Well, I did pick up KKOH, the dominate one, but there was something under 780 KOH. The station under didn't sound like 780 WBBM at all.

What time were you listening? WBBM does broadcast "When Radio Was" late at night central time.

I know what you mean, Crain. Those Washington and Utah pests ruin the entire dial here in NE Pennsylvania, too. Real nuisances.

Could your 780 N/T- er be Arizona?

I get you. Well, in looking at the list of stations in North America on 780 we're pretty limited. There's KAZM Sedona, AZ (with a mere 250 watts) and KNOM Nome, AK (14 kw) and either one would be one hell of a catch! Especially Nome! KCEG Pueblo, CO is also listed, but as silent. If they're back on, that's another possibility. But, on the whole, all would be very tough catches from your location.

Honestly, there don't seem to be any daytimers on that frequency who - by forgetting to turn off - would be showing up. Most are very far from you and don't run much power during the day. So, I'd rule that out too.

The most obvious suspect is still WBBM, perhaps they were playing an interview or one of the old radio shows (as radioman pointed out).

A few nights ago just before Indiana Sunrise I was getting something undisernable on AM 640,, I tried to stay locked in long enough to ID it, but it was very hard to make out.. I did catch KFI a few weeks back, the same night the dude in Florida Caught it, but I bet ya anything I'll never hear KFI here again.. It could have just been Harmonics, it was very distorted. I did manage to pull in the oldies station on 1700 X BAND last night for about 15 minutes, then a deep fade came, and then spanish took it over.

KFI used to be an easy catch in northern Illinois, but now with all the interference on 640 it's next to impossible.
