You are in one of the most outdoor friendly states in the nation. You need to get out and play a little football with your buds, or do some hiking. ;D

Took a walk around the neighborhood last night, and halfway through... it was pouring down rain!

Crain - Do you ever try for split frequency Asian stations during the early morning hours? I would think your location would favor trans-pacific reception. Seems like I recall there being some big outlets from Japan on 747 & 828 that are frequently heard along parts the north-western coast.

Asian carriers are possible, but I'm asleep at 4am. It's much easier on the coast with a good antenna (example: Grayland, WA DXpeditions).

Those are great catches, WLS and the Anchorage station.
WA state is perhaps be one of the AM DX friendiest states compared to the eastern states. I am still trying to hear KSL 1160 but I am still getting WYLL, WOBM and several other untellligible (sp?) signals. I'll just keep trying.

Your scan of the Portland freqs seems to check out, with two exceptions: KKAD (1550) and KPAM (860) are not transmitted anywhere out of Oregon; KKAD is on the former KVAN transmitter in Vancouver, WA. KPAM is located adjacent to it, in the same transmitter yard. Their "studios" (read: downlink sites) are in Portland and Troutdale, respectively, but their MW signals originate from this side of the Columbia.

The AM band seems to be "hotter" the last few days on the East Coast,. less IBOC splatter and the Chi clears were really clear. Great catches from the NW however esp AK.

Nice work on 550 KTZN! I'd never think to try any Anchorage stations outside of 650 or 750; but of course you have CISL & KXL to deal with. Try for KHAR 590 if possible next time; they run Dial Global standards & also shows like When Radio Was. www.khar590.com

cd

Maybe it wasn't KPIG. I heard some faint music under KGA however...
