AM Frequency of the Week - 1180 kHz (10 kHz)

I heard CB181 Radio Portales de Santiago from Santiago de Chile this last Thursday on this frequency :)

Always appreciate hearing what's going on in your part of the world....in the middle of winter! Keep the reports coming!

Here in the far northwest suburbs of Chicago, its a good signal from WSQR in Sycamore, IL, about 28 miles southwest of me.

At night, WSQR goes down to one watt. WHAM shows up about two miles from the stick, and completely takes over about two miles beyond that. WHAM is very reliable, if not quite as robust as in the past. Cuba is pretty much a non-issue, although it does show up underneath WHAM once in a while.

In Boise, I do remember hearing a Radio Marti ID.
Then (also in Boise) there was the morning when a loud het on my cheap 9-transistor radio was the Voice of America
Okinawa 1178 KHz. Loud & clear with the sign-off & Yankee Doodle.

I thought Radio Marti was super-directional towards Cuba. That's amazing!

Bongwater, I just logged Radio Rebelde from Cuba earlier this year. That's 2800mi+. The best way to get an ID from these Rebelde repeaters if it matches the 5.025 khz SW broadcast. I've also logged Cuba on 670 in the null of KBOI, on one incredible East condition night (WBBM was overpowering KKOH like it was no one's business, like a local)

Heard them many years ago.
Don't think VOA 1180 started out with their current highly directional array.
There's a history of this site out there somewhere.
