Am I the only one who finds it 'interesting' that Neal Boortz....

Political speechwriters are often simply hired professional wordsmiths who'll work for anyone who pays them. There are plenty of political speechwriters who've worked for people they totally disagree with. Then there are the speech writers who'll write on certain topics but not others. For example, Governor Maddox had strong opinions on many subjects. Even people who disagreed with him about his views on integration might agree with his stand on taxation, or on road building.

Since you didn't post any link to an information source that verifies your assertion, and you didn't provide any details about where, when, and how much Boortz wrote for Maddox, your launch post question doesn't provide much to talk about or comment on.

Was Boortz a permanent staff writer, or was he hired as a freelancer to do piece work? When did Boortz work for Maddox, and for how long? Are there any examples available of the actual speeches themselves?

I once sold a speech to a local township supervisor when I was in high school. He needed a five minute speech for a dedication of a new local park ceremony, and my English teacher suggested me to the supervisor's secretary. I made a quick $50, which in the 1960's was a pretty good deal for a teenager. The speech was just a bunch of cliches and platitudes about how parks were for children, and being for children is good. I'd hate to discover that the supervisor went on to be elected to higher office and turned out to be some jerk and I'd have my name associated with his because of a quick speech I wrote over 40 years ago.

There was a picture of Boortz (looked like he was in his 20's or early 30's) and Maddox together in a trade magazine-can't remember which one-several years ago.

Wow!!!! What a damning piece of information!!! They were close enough together that they could both be in a picture in a newspaper together!!!! Alert the media!!!

Thank you for bringing this earth-shaking information to our attention. I don't know how we survived for those several years without knowing this.

It's a good thing the talk radio industry has you looking out for things like this.

Don't dwell on one picture for too long man.
There's probably lots of pictures out there of lots of people doing lots of things. Some of them even in the same frame. And some occurred before Photoshop came out!
Boortz himself would probably rather for you to be more concerned that he was a lawyer back then and -- oh snap -- I think he probably still is.

Yes...and the late Senator from West Virginia (Robert Byrd), was in the KKK in earlier life.

You wanna dredge up something else?

The only thing I find interesting about Boortz is why he isn't bigger than he is. I guess the timeslot hurts the growth of the show.

He usually ends up on the second talk station in the market: The one that didn't get Beck-Rush-Hannity. And since he is not syndicated by Premiere Radio, he is at a profound disadvantage getting picked up by any Clear Channel station.

Radiobum: Has Boortz said or done anything recently (say in the last 30 or 40 years) you find "interesting?"
