AM Stations firing it up tonight? Message from FCC Monitor Powell Way!

Maybe Arbor Mist would sponsor the Board...

I was asked today how much power will WHIN be running tomorrow night during the first official football game? My reply was, I don't know? Depends on how much muddy water is on the field tomorrow night. WE (WMRO-AM) will be broadcasting the same game (such a stupid idea, but it's Buntin's ego trip, and I shouldn't let him do it), but we will run LEGAL POWER DURING THE GAME!

If 1010 cranks it up, Powell will be monitoring and the hot line will be ringing to his enforcement buddy in Hot Atlanta, probably hanging out at the "Tattle Tales Strip Club"! OH WAIT......WHAT A GOOD ADVERTISING TRADE FOR BUNTIN!

I'm not sure how you make this stuff up.

My association with WHIN goes back to 1966, and the station was there years before. I know of no trouble the station may have had with the fcc except that year we didn't have the tower bulbs in the right place. The only trouble has been from this poster. Meanwhile, Jack and Spip just let him rant. They know it's a bunch of stuff as do those of us who know the situation.

I live here and have since coming back from Houston, Tx in 1979. Knowing the intergrity of Jack and Skip is what led me to accept a position with WHIN effective after my retirement becomes official from Clear Channel in twi weeks. I'll have a part in the one hour live show in the mornings, doing what local radio stations do, keeping the locals of all ages abreast of what's going on in the county. What a concept, real local radio. I was listening to the station this morning as I was on Music Row on the way to work...yep...all the way to Nashville...in the daytime. I used to try listening on Friday nights several years ago, and could barely get the signal out where I live. Illigel....crooked...cheating. I think not. "Book it"
See you on 1010 in a couple....be listening.
Buddy

My responce: Buddy who cares how long you've been around WHIN except a bunch of old fogies that live around here in the county that are dying off. And two, my problem is not with Jack at all, IT IS WITH SKIP SPARKMAN. He claims to be a CHRISTIAN, and I have many people that have told me stuff that he has made comments about me and this station.

Just because you've been in radio longer than me doesn't give you more credibility than me, especially to the younger crowd.

anyone have any questions?
this says it all.

and I'm glad I learned today that 'the younger crowd" is apparently listening to low power-high dial position AM.
guess someone's gotta do it.

Romer979 & Firepoint525:

Both of you are just jelious because I own a station and you don't. If you did, you would take the same pride that I do. Chris, you should be a shamed of yourself making comments like that on this board. Your suppose to set examples to the younger ones on here!

Now, I can pick on Bill Buntin because I've known him for OVER 25 years and when I make a joke like I do, we both just laugh about it. Mr. Romer, my focus is now on you and your comments, like you think your so perfect, especially making business decisions. I not trying to start a battle with you, but we all make mistakes in life, AND I know of a few mistakes you have done in your personal life that cost you. It was info that didn't come from Bill Buntin.

This is WHY I left this board for a while because of crap that gets start on here, like a bunch of old hins with nothing to do! I made the warning to all AM Radio Owners on here because it was truth and the TAB to get upset thing the Commission was going to come up here and start busting stations with fines. A $10 grand fine is alot of mone to stations like WHIN, WMRO, WQKR, WCOR, WDBL, WSGI, and the list goes on up and down the AM dial. None of us make the money to afford such and Mr. Powell Way is for real and means what he says.

Were we not told several weeks ago that Jules Brazil had been fired from WMRO? Tonight I heard him on the football broadcast with Billy Boy Buntin. Hmmmmmmmm ::)

go get him, chris. ;D

Scott, you gotta be kidding yourself! Me, "jealous" of you because you "own" a station? You realize how immature you came off with that one??

First of all, you are as cynical as any owner/manager I have ever worked for! They were all highly anal retentive!

Furthermore, you have complained many times on here about how you wish you had an FM translator, and you have complained about your high dial position, and on and on! You've also said that the station will die with you. Is that "operating in the public interest," or only in your own? But despite all your complaining about how bad it is for you and your station, you crow on here about how you won't sell it! Who'd buy a small AM station in 2008 anyway, except for a tax writeoff, or to protect their other stations from the competition?

Buy an FM translator if you need one! I suggest 102.1, since I've also suggested that Cromwell simulcast their programming over both of their Nashville stations. If they do that, they won't need 102.1 anymore.

Why do you worry about stations whose signal does not interfere with yours? If the Clarksville station at 1550 were over-running your signal by staying on day power after sunset, I would understand your gripe. But a station at 1010 is no interference to you. They may be competition, but I'm getting a distinct "sour grapes" vibe from you! And if you sign off at sunset, what does it matter to you if other stations run at higher power after sunset?

I had your station in my presets to listen to whenever I was working in Metrocenter, but since you're being such an ogre, I will take your station out of my presets, effective with the next time I get in my car! Congratulations, you have one less listener!

First of all, I don't know who you are & really don't care. I really don't need an FM Translator to make more money or to have more listeners. I NEVER said that 1010 was interfering with me, talk to Powell Way about that. He's the DX guy, that has a straight connection to the Commission & he came to this board to say that 1010 is a Class "D" Channel with 5 KW daytime, and 47 watts at night.

His concerns were that they were overpowering on High School Football Nights. This can cause interference to WINS-AM on 1010 in NYC and CFRB in Canada. WINS bought a 50 KW station on 1010 in the 90's in Little Rock,AR (KRLA) so they could change their pattern to go more south at night. WINS-AM is a "Class A" station that has to be protected at night. I thought Chris Romer had knew that, but it seems he doesn't. WINS has the some of the same protection rights as WSM-AM, due to they are both "Class A" stations day & night.

It seems that most of you (except Doug and Watt) understand AM engineering and what goes on with the band at night.

All you people on this board want to is to fight & argue over programming of the Nashville FM's that none of you will never have control over. They are owned by corporate, they buy the Arbitron Book and when a station slips in the book, changes are made, it just that simple. None of you have the guts to even come to my station and argue your facts with me, but of course it would be a waste of time, so you hid behind your keyboard to start up your junk. I don't give a damn what corporate (Clear Channel, Cumulus, Citadel, South Central, etc.) are doing with thier stations. You people get on here like a bunch of old hins, & worry about what some FM that has thier transmitter site between Nashville & Clarksville is going to do next, who cares.

And another thing, Buddy Sadler & Chris Romer are NOT the gods of Radio. Most of you make them remind me of dudes like Jud Collins and how he ran his mouth to Van Irwin Jr. (Owner of WNAH-AM 1360) saying things like, shut up Van, you'll never make it, go away, sell that station Van, etc. This all occured in the 1950's. Today, Mr. Iwrin has got the last laugh because he is 89 years old and has owned and operated WNAH since he put it on in 1949. He still comes in to work each day. He still there, and it's been over 50 years, and look where Collins is now.

I take the attitude of Van Irwin Jr, ignor all of you, follow the FCC tech rules, and just make the money that I can, and to hell with you outsiders. And finally, I could careless what Bud Walters is doing with 1550 in Clarksville, or what he's doing with his FM's. WQZQ in Clarksville, even thought it is first adjacent to me, has no inpact on me, so whay are you bringing it up anyway?

Finally, you never worked for me, where do you get that s*** at?

END OF MY POSTINGS HERE! YOU GOT SOMETHING TO SAY TO ME, SAY IT OVER THE PHONE OR TO MY FACE! I WILL NOT BE LOOKING BACK AT THIS BOARD SO WHAT YOU SAY I WON'T KNOW ABOUT UNLESS SOMEBODY CALLS ME!

A quick reminder of who started all of this nonsense in the first place... Note that I was the one who first identified the station we all knew you were talking about.....

Well fellow radio freaks: ::)

High School Football Season is at our front door and we KNOW what AM stations do that are classified as “Class D” AM stations do. Crank up the transmitter to their day power at night! Not all, but most of them do it.

For you GM’s and Owners of AM stations, you better watch what you’re doing AND STAY AT LEGAL POWER AT NIGHT! I know of one local station, that I will keep his name to myself that will be cranking up his “Muddy Water Five” and you will be able to hear the damn station over 30 states on Friday Nights between 7 PM and 10 PM.

Do not say I didn’t warn you, but Powell Way in Newberry, SC will be monitoring the band for the FCC’s Enforcement Bureau and turning in stations that are not following the rules. All the DX guys will be monitoring with Powell. There will be one engineer out with his field strength meter monitoring stations!

Remember, the football players must follow the rules of playing Football, and we as broadcasters must follow the rules of broadcasting and setting good examples for our youth! If your not suppose to be at night, then stay off, and if you have Secondary Nighttime Authorization, operate what you’re suppose to! ;D

Well, back to my cave!

But, if you can't take the heat and have to start contradicting what you said, run!!

However, if you think you can jump in here and say what you want and have everyone agree with you and not one person speak up who disagrees with you (even knowing that multiple people here also work in radio and are not on the outside looking in), then I guess that makes YOU the God of radio!!!

Ironically, most of us agree with you more often than not until you get to the point where you lose it and all of a sudden you think everything is a paranoid attack on WMRO.

We wil continue to post things here about you and you won't see them. We'd call you, but the line is always busy due to all the kids at Gallatin High that have turned off their ipods and are making requests to hear their favorite hits on AM radio.
