In the cases of both WASK-AM and WSHY, it's going to be awhile before EITHER can provide fulltime local talent (news, sports, talk, whatever) because the days of hiring fulltime airstaff are long gone. You have to have a decent salary to pay all of those people and most stations find it more profitable/dependable to automate or run something off the dish. That's why Clayton, Brendan and Kitch are out selling on the street as well. Do you think Schurz is going to pony up dough for new sales people AND pay these guys a living wage? And they are not going to pull away their excellent sales people away from WASK/WKOA/WKHY/WXXB just to sell sports "on the side".
Good point, Wiener. The news department on WASK wasn't profitable. That doesn't mean it wasn't valuable. There's a difference.
The Sports Guys do their thing a few hours at a time here and there which is great, but Mike and Mike in the Morning and other shows off the dish are the central focus of WASK-AM, not them.
Same goes for WSHY: No, you're NOT going to hear alot of local news or anything right away because that station will be driven by dish shows like Rush, Dennis Miller, etc.
Once there's ample funds, you'll see something more local on both stations on a regular basis. But I feel that's years away.
