Amy Goodman, of "Democracy Now!" arrested at Republican National Convention

Re: Amy Goodman, of "Democracy Now!" arrested at Republican National Convention

Oh Well!  When you cause trouble, it'll come back to bite you, Ms. Goodman.

R.D.P. <><

P.S. Glad that I don't watch her TV program. It's very dull and boring anyway.

She wasn't there to cause trouble. she was there to REPORT.

This isn't helping McCain any.

I met Amy Goodman a few years ago and personally found her to be very thoughtful, yet strict to her ethics. She cuts beyond the spin and general B.S. (Edward R. Murrow didn't make his name artificially gushing over right-wing policies or Britney Spears.) You gotta love Amy Goodman because she is an underdog. She ain't no damn terrorist. she's a reporter who tells it like it is. If the Republicans can't handle it (like most questioning opinion since 9/11), then that's THEIR problem, not Amy's.

If I were any member of the conservative-right, I personally would have welcomed her there and would have been more than happy to answer any question she asked. Oh, and by the way, she's sank her teeth into more than just a few "liberals" too. (Bill Clinton, yes the right wing "anti-Christ" himself, included, when he thought he could get a free ride on her show. NOBODY appears on an interview with her without geting asked some HARD, unscripted questions.)

It's not her "bias", it's just her job. I too wonder why some harmless people are serving a life sentance for possesion of a joint when extremely violent murderers and rapists get out after sometimes less than 5 years. She's not afraid to reveal the ugly hypocrisy of the system while other so-called "journalists" unquestionably sing the praises of it. That's what makes her different.

She's one of the very last of the TRUE radio journalists out there. She's very popular in many areas of the country. And I hope she continues to make GREAT news radio. No matter what your opinion of her, she's made an indelible mark on radio journalism. She's true to the old school ethic of it. And you can't buy her off.

We LOVE you Amy Goodman, Kick some ass!

Re: Amy Goodman, of "Democracy Now!" arrested at Republican National Convention

If she had violated a perimeter set up by police to quell an angry mob of protesters, she was subject to being arrested. I don't care who she is. What people seem to forget is that these people behind the badge have a job to do. Their job at that particular moment was to restore order to the scene. It seems to me that the people complaining about how the police handled this situation are probably the same ones that will dial 9-1-1 for their assistance when their tail is in a crack.

As for it not helping McCain any, that point is laughable. Although there is freedom of press and freedom of speech, those who print and speak are not above the law.

MAYBE if she had something identifying her as the press, she MIGHT not have been detained. I don't remember seeing anything on her identifying her as such.

Didn't people create the government? Isn't it by the consent of the governed? Isn't the law just words on paper? Shouldn't bad laws be disobeyed?

Maybe not. This guy had ABC news credentials and was arrested outside the DNC:

And it's not just happening in MN:

Here's lots of police attacking reporters and destroying broadcast equipment:

Goodman may be a socialist, but peaceful people don't deserve this thuggish treatment.

Re: Amy Goodman, of "Democracy Now!" arrested at Republican National Convention

Sorry to hear about Ms. Goodman. Though she has largely fallen out of favor with when she decided to turn Democracy Now from being a serious alternative news/talk program into a more Obama-agenda driven show I'm glad she hasn't forgotten her journalistic roots and didn't back down this time, as the past few years she really became spineless as she finally was interviewing the big guns. Perhaps we'll start seeing the Amy Goodman of old with this incident. Godspeed Amy!

Re: Amy Goodman, of "Democracy Now!" arrested at Republican National Convention

She got what she deserved. In a high securirty environment she was told to move along and she didn't. So, she was arrested. She had no identifying credentials visible, which any first-year journalism student it taught is mandatory when covering a news event. I hate the excuse "they were only doing their job", as too often it's used as an excuse for excesses. But in this case, based on the content of the news article and the video, it's clear that she was not following what the laws and common sense require.

Frankly, she looked a lot like an aging Squeeky Fromme. Remember her? The Manson follower and would-be assassin of Gerald Ford? She was also hauled away by the police, and none too gently.

This is reality people. There isn't a city in America in which the police don't want their town to be remembers as being the next Dallas. If some wild-eyed whacko with no journalist credentials is where they aren't supposed to be, and won't move to where they're supposed to move when they are told by law enforcement officers in full uniform to move along, then the person with no credentials will get what's coming to them.

On the other hand, This will make a great publicity piece for Goodman. I'm sure she'll milk it for all it's worth for more visibility and a small spike in her ratings.

Did all the media people at the links I gave also "deserve it"?

Good or bad, they're called laws for a reason.

When someone goes looking for a fight, they should not be surprised when they get one.

Frankly, I'm getting more than a little fed up with certain people in the media provoking confrontations with law enforcement just to garner publicty to boost their ratings.

I'm so glad people are willing to accept state-sanctioned 'free speech zones'. Whatever happened to a redress of grievances, freedom of the press as an absolute when it came to political figures? This is nonsense. "If you're not doing anything wrong, you have nothing to fear," is the mantra. They have moved the lines of what 'wrong' is. Protests that are in the face of the people you're protesting against should be welcomed. One should be able to respond.

Can I see your papers?

Wow. She's not a looker.
If you remember Fromme, you must be the prize pig of the fair yourself. Let's see your mug.

Wh-wh-what?
Not the content, but the sentence is rather...viscous.

This is reality- *chortle*-"We've already paid for this." Indeed. May you engage your soft pimply posterior in something as positive, and receive the same treatment for speaking your mind.
