An eye opener for people that want an R&B station in S.A.

Poor ticket sells for Mary J Blige have resulted to buy one ticket get one free. Do you people really think S.A. needs an R&B station when we can't even support one of today's hottest R&B artist?

the problem with that is that our beloved "hip hop and r&b" staton rarely plays a real r&b song unless it's got some rapper in it. Therefore, San Antonio doesn't get a true exposure to r&b, not like back in the 90s when we had KSJL, and even KTFM was playing real r&b music. If we had r&b on FM, it could possibly work. To be honest, I don't think the African-American community of San Antonio gets much exposure or credibility.

Because the BEAT has such a large share SA has room for another hip hop station, not a traditional urban or R&B station. If a station came on playing Mary J Blige type artists it would do very poorly. The demographics of SA support hip hop not R&B.

In fact one way to combat KBBT would be a "no boring R&B" policy. I would skip out on songs like "Be Without You" no matter how big they are on the national chart.

Regardless, you have 4 stations playing this artist and still unable to sell out or even sell tickets.
Thats just a shame.

it is a shame...you mean to tell me that KBBT the hiphop and r&b station didnt sell out the concert with a whopping 9 share? lmao.......

i hope they do better on their beat bash 1...aka the little kids show!

little kids show? i like your humor. mary j. blige show wasn't the beat's own show...like someone in a previous post, all stations in s.a. play mary j. blige and all stations were promoting it and giving tix away but everyone for some reason wants to put the blame on the beat. and fyi: beat bash number 1 is thisclose to selling out

Update- Mary J Blige has just cancelled her show. No reason was given but I'm willing to guess it's because of poor ticket sales.

Also, I agree with Nikki_961, Mary J ticket sales has nothing to do with The Beat.

okay i agree and i dont...so im 50/50

nikki, you are right. it is not the beats fault. they did advertise on other stations for this show.

however...what i think newschool is elating to is that everyone wants an r&b station but the market cant even support a concert with its current "hiphop and r&b" station....which had an incredible(clap clap) 9 share on the last book.

i think the beat bash is a great idea...it is about time the beat has done something gutsy in the market .but i does sound a like a kid show. i hope they sell out, repeat it next year and make it a market fixture. i assume they would since its labeled beat bash "#1"

what remains to be seen as with all shows....
what kind of crowd? crowd control? fights, riots, etc?
ticket sales?
did all the artist show?
