I went in the restaurant that plyed WBRF Tuesday and they had something acceptable but not particularly enjoyable for me. But it was WTQR. This was bad. Or maybe not. The next song was "Sold" by John Michael Montgomery, a good song. After that, just one long commercial break. While I waited for my food, I was stuck watching Lindsay Lohan go to jail on Fox News. Honestly! Her hair and dress looked nice, thought you wonder what's the point. I guess she knew the cameras would be there, though, so she couldn't show up looking like a convict.
I drove to Winston-Salem Thursday. I finally had the courage to try WBRF, and it was good. Songs I had never heard on Country Legends 98.3, and songs I had never heard ever. And plenty of good songs I knew. And I kept hearing the words "by request". How many DJs do that?
When I started home, though, it wasn't that good. Two songs in a row by Tim McGraw. actually, the first one was good. Then there was some pop-sounding mess by a young girl who sang about dying young. With banjos and fiddles tacked on so it would pass for country. No, wait, those banjos and fiddles actually dominated there for a while. More pop-sounding mess, but also a good George Jones song. And a Marty Robbins song, by request. Hey, this station is good!
But closer to home I'm not likely to pick it up, which becomes important if my standards station is airing the 190th American Legion baseball game so far this summer. In fact, if I need the air conditioning even when there's not a game, I can't pick up that station beyond 20 miles. Oh, well, I've gotten used to that screaming noise . It's better than the music most stations play.
I had one more stop to make and then it was time for Rush on 94.5. But I just read THAT'S ending now. I discovered him because I was trying for the beautiful music station farther south, but that didn't work out too well. But it has been such fun to listen to the man.
