And the award for the most announcing traffic announcer in Atlanta goes to....

F

Freebird Fantasia

Guest
Captain Herb for the 15th consecutive year!!!

(Clap, clap, clap.....)

Congratulations Cap'ain.

"Oh, my aching toe...."

Re: And the award for the most announcing traffic announcer in Atlanta goes to..

ART "Mad Man" surely is the most annoying. Thankfully CC doesn't do much traffic anymore and I don't listen to them so don't have to put up with his Grease Man style delivery.

At least the Cap'ain gets up in the air for a real time report. Where do the rest of the part time traffic people work? Behind DOT cams?

Re: And the award for the most annoying traffic announcer in Atlanta goes to....

Cap'n Herb isn't the only one who gets airborne...don't forget "KIM McCarthy- Skyplaaaaane...!"

;D

Denzil over at DAVE is hands down the most grating voice in Atlanta radio. I'm sure he's a nice guy and I have nothing personally against him but he reminds me of Chris from The Family Guy all grown up and with a job.

All of the ones mentioned are indeed bad, but no one can top Captain Herb.

It's just something about his redneck drawl that really gets on my last nerve.

Captain Herb is one of the best traffic reporters and all round talented radio guys in the business. There is nothing that guy can't do.....and well! And he's a nice guy too!
He has the drawl because he's from North Carolina. You don't have to be from Cinncinnati to be on the radio! I LIKE his drawl and I'll/We'll take you outside for a good ol' southern a** whuppin' if you give anymore of that "attitude"!(smile)
On a side note: Is there anything you DO like about Atlanta radio?

The only reason Freebird finds Herb annoying is because Herb flies for WSB. If he was on WGST, Freebird would love him (and would also be his only listener).

So much for annoying but absolutely the best traffic reporter on Atlanta Radio is Chris Monroe at WKGA. Not only are his reports "up-to-the-minute" but he delivers them in such a personable way that it is impossible to get caught up in traffic jams.

Thanks for the reply, Mrs. Monroe. :-D

I like Art Mehring and Paula Phillips....those are my picks for the best.

Remember Scott Slade doing it before Captain Herb. Before Scott was Dave Foulke. Who did it in the 60's and 70's especially during the Jim Howell and John Moore days?

Hey What About Jason Durden in B98.5FM What Do you All think About him??

Before Dave it was OJP....Officer Jerry Price. Wasn't he a real APD employee who "moonlightd" on WSB?
I have the foggy notion that he was a real cop....alwways had the skimmy on wrecks and car chases that the others missed.

Yep. A real ATL motorcycle squad cop. He was a great guy - I had the pleasure of working with him in the 80's. He supposedly left WSB when he found out that if the copter crashed, there would be NO benefits for his family.

Re: And the award for the most announcing traffic announcer in Atlanta goes to..

I like Chris Monroe and Heidi Rew on 920, too, and yes, I also listen to WSB a lot. 'SB's traffic reports are cluttered; you have to make a very concentrated effort to make sure you don't miss your particular area because they fly thru the report so quickly.

On a side note, a friend of mine is a traffic reporter (no, he's not either of the people I mentioned) and he told me that recently one of his co-workers was in a wreck heading into work. Struck me as funny and ironic for a traffic reporter to have a wreck in traffic on the way to work.

What do that mean?

although you got the fellas up there in the choppers braving the winds, you also have to give credit to paula phillips for her improvisational skills on different subjects on different stations for different people. of course with that quick wit she can pierce delicate personalities, but it's mostly the fact that someone has to bear the bad news when idiots out there can't drive worth a damn. elle is very good looking on V-103, but she doesn't have as much desire and passion as paula. she's a sexy greek lady who i would love to go somewhere with and sip some ouzo.

Jason Durden is by far the best in town as far as I'm concerned. He doen't speak too fast...I can understand every word he says. I can't understand a word that Captain Herb says...doesn't sound natural at all.

Art "mad man" and Chris Monroe love to hear themselves talk more than anyone else doing traffic.

I truly have to agree. Paula is dynamite on the air. She does great on Hot 107.9, and can do 680 as well. I think Faith on V-103 is great, as well as Arum on 750.

Honestly, the girls on Star 94 are awful. They really don't know what they're talking about. I really think Monroe is full of himself- never cared for him on 750, and especially on WGKA.

Agree about the girls on Star...Arum has a really good voice, but for some reaon likes to occasionally "scream" or "shout" the traffic when he gets in a hurry.
