I don't get it, why is this a stupid decision?
The station was looking for a new PD, and management was not only able to find a major market candidate, but one from the San Francisco market. This might be a good thing for Energy.

Yeah thats what im thinking... Im just glad Energy finally gets a P.D again. Give John a chance before you run him down....
This station needs a new pd. The format sucks, in my opinion. I'm fan of dance music and I can't stand having a dance station that airs diva sounding tracks. And for a genre that was made to be mixed, there is hardly any mixing taking place. Plus, the signal is still terrible for us in the south bay.

Just to be clear on this: you do know who the station is targetting with their programming, right?
So a PD cannot be versatile and be able to program several formats? Are you saying that Energy's PD NEEDS to be someone who has ONLY programmed dance music? If that's the case, then you'll be out of luck. There aren't too many proven programmers like that.
For the dance format, you need a PD who could program like a CHR and target like an AC.
I think you should give John a chance before you start roasting him on coals. The owners have always wanted to target the 25-34 demo. Energy 92.7 is listed as a rhythmic AC! The hiring of a programmer who has worked in that specific demo, and the fact that he is a veteran programmer of the market, should signal that the owner and John are very serious about making Energy succeed.
Yes, I do have an interest in making sure that Energy succeeds in the Bay Area. That is why I believe that this was a good choice. Let's see how it goes.
I'm not putting the pd down. I'm just tired of Energy playing crap. But, I'll give this new guy a chance.
Edited by Brangeno on 12/24/05 06:03 AM.

Just for the record, John Peake programmed KRBE/Houston for a number of years. It's not only one of the most long-term, successful, major market CHRs in the country, but when John programmed KRBE, the station had a fairly significant Dance lean.
John also programmed TOP 40 RADIO NRJ out of Paris before coming back to the US to program ALICE in SF. This man has more than enough experience transcending multiple formats to get the job done.
______________
