What does ANY of the story have to do with this post?
Nothing.
Goodtimesandgreatoldies said:LLsh, you read my post wrong. I never said that Anderson College had ever owned 101.1. As I said before, it was owned by and founded by Wilton E. Hall. It (along with WAIM-AM 1230 and WAIM-TV 40) was sold to Frank Outlaw (who founded Bi-Lo Grocery). The studios remained at Anderson College until about 1983 or so when they were moved down Highway 29 North to a new building. (WAIM-1230 still uses these studios.) Frank Outlaw sold WCKN 101 in the early 1980`s. The station moved to greenville around 1989 or so. Lee Rogers was the PD for a good part of the 1980`s. And, yes Anderson University wants to buy 101.1 because of its` 100,000 watts of power and its` ties to the University. Wilton hall founded WAIM-AM 1230 in 1932 and the studios were ALWAYS at AU for many years. When 101.1 was founded in the 1940`s, the studios were with WAIM-AM 1230 at Anderson College. WAIM-TV 40 came along in the early 1950`s and had their studios there too. In the 1960`s, the studios were relocated to a brick building in the rear portion of Anderson College where they remained until the 1980`s. Bill Love (of WMYI-Fm My 102.5) worked at WAIM-FM Rock 101 when it was founded in 1978. There is a famous true story of a kid who atteneded Anderson College. He won a couple of cases of beer from the station (back then they gave it away on air and the legal drinking age was 18). The kid picked up the beer from the WAIM studios on campus, consumed most of it and became very drunk. he caused alot of property damage and was caught by police climbing the large WAIM antenna (which still today stands) at the rear of the school. This was a true story and Bill love was talking about it a few years ago on another website....Yes, 101.1 has alot of local history in Anderson.
