ANNUNCIATION RADIO expanding - Washington Court House.

From All Access:

"ST. GABRIEL RADIO, INC. is transferring the construction permit for noncommercial FM WEWH/WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE, OH to OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE RADIO, INC. DBA ANNUNCIATION RADIO for no charge."

The WEWH CP expired on July 8th so ST. GABRIEL RADIO, INC waited until the last secound to donate it. I thought ST. GABRIEL RADIO, INC would
allow the WEWH CP to quietly expire. Will this one ever be built?

Also, It appears that ST. GABRIEL RADIO, INC will also allow its other CP to expire. They have at least one more CP in the Portsmouth, Ohio area.

From the ST. GABRIEL RADIO, INC website:
"July 2008
Acquired FCC Construction permits for new stations in Washington Court House (91.1FM) and South Webster serving Portsmouth, Ohio (90.9FM)."

The ST. GABRIEL RADIO, INC filing with the FCC on the transfer of the WEWH construction permit:

ST. GABRIEL RADIO, INC. is also transferring the construction permit for noncommercial FM WTJM South Webster, serving Portsmouth, Ohio on
90.9 to Catholic Radio Network. The CP for WTJM was set to expire on July 17, 2011. They are selling the CP for 1,000 dollars.

Sounds like St. Gabe is struggling. This is a loss for them but at least they were kind to hand the Washington C.H. CP over to Deacon Mike Learned and offers him to expand further.

Seems to me that leasing WVKO has been detrimental. Was in hopes that St. Gabe would have purchased WVKO by now.

My guess is their paying more for the WVKO AM LMA signal than their making in donations... which is hurting their efforts to expand.

::)Their + there + they're = 3 different words. I know what you're trying to say though, and you're right.
And Limp, why would you hope that St. Gabe would have purchased WVKO by now? They're getting their propaganda out to their 5 listeners just fine as it is. Why would you care whether they owned it or were leasing it?

And BTW, St. Gabe will NEVER buy WVKO.

St Gabe Catholic radio was quoted in the November, 2008 Portsmouth newspaper that they were buying WVKO-AM for 1.5 million dollars. It's been
almost three years now and St Gabriel Catholic radio has yet to buy WVKO-AM 1580. Anyone know whats holding St Gabriel Catholic Radio back?

In order to buy something for 1.5 million you have to have 1.5 million. They can barely make the monthly LMA payments.

Not only that, but they aren't able to expand into more cities in Ohio like they had hope to in the beginning. They had plans on covering the entire Columbus Dioceses with a network of stations
like the one below.

Here is that article, with the appropriate excerpts on WVKO-AM 1580:

What's the frequency, Gabriel?
Portsmouth Daily Times (OH) - Tuesday, November 25, 2008
Author: RYAN SCOTT OTTNEY ; PDT Staff Writer

St. Gabriel Radio is moving into West Portsmouth, hoping to spread the Catholic message throughout its listening area.

St. Gabriel Radio, soon to be found locally at 90.9 FM, is a 501.c3 non-profit radio station that has been granted a non-commercial educational (NCE) license by the Federal Communications Commission.

To help the West Portsmouth station get started, the company has begun a capital campaign to help raise $70,000. Barone said the money would be used for the transmitter, tower rental space, computers and software.

"Just to give you an comparison, our station here in Columbus that we're purchasing is going to cost us $1.5 million, and it's a 3,000-watt station, and it's AM, which is not as good. The station you're getting is an FM station and it's roughly 5,000-watts, for only $70,000," Barone said.

Yes...and I'm sure the donations they're getting will equal 1.5 million within 3 years...Of course, I also believe in flying elephants, too.

1.5 million? Way, way way too much money to pay for a bad signal high on the dial....even in Columbus.

Granted,WVKO isn't the best signal in Elsie-town but is (comparitively speaking) a little better than WUCO's...that's why they chose to sell WUCO.

WUCO should not be heard in Columbus during the daytime. The signal is beamed away from Columbus in the daytime but WUCO
is operating with a STA from the FCC to run their NIGHT pattern 24/7 while they work on getting their tower site fixed. They have
been doing this for about the last four years or so.

St Gabriel Catholic radio has purchased WOSU-AM from Ohio State University:

http://www.radio-info.com/news/2-mi...-ohio-where-st-gabriel-moves-from-1580-to-820

Here is the announcement from St. Gabriel Catholic Radio on the purchase of WOSU-AM today:

http://stgabrielradio.com/

Maybe this is the reason why St. Gabe was no longer interested in keeping it's Washington Court House FM CP? WOSU-AM radio has a pretty good signal into the Washington Court House area.

And with that said let's give it a rest. AM 820's signal is excellent in this area...and I am very much surpised and happy for St. Gabriel...they made the right decision....as for Annunciation, let them do their thing in Toledo and Sandusky and for all intents and purposes let's move on.

Quick question slightly OT ... does anyone know what station interferes with WLW all over north Columbus? I've been at Easton and DeSales High School in recent days and noticed a station underneath but can't nail who is causing the substantial interference. I don't think it's WOSU or WVKO, but if not them who? Thanks.

AM 820 is back on the air as St. Gabriel's new home as of Saturday morning under the new callsign WVSG. Currently in simulcast with WVKO but that will change Tuesday evening Dec 20.

WVKO will then air their version of the "switch-over" announcement loop as did the former WOSU-AM before it went silent this past Wednesday morning

Rumour has it that WVKO will revert back to the progressive talk format afterwards. (see Columbus boards)
