Another radio news legend is moving on--and she's in Akron

Her name is Pat Kennard, and she is leaving 1590 WAKR after a distinguished 27+ years with the locally owned station.

Fortunately for WAKR, they still have a veteran news anchor with Larry States, who's been with the station for a quarter century.

Columbus used to have some top notch professionals along the lines of these two veterans. But the bulk of them such as John Remy, Sherry Fisher and Robert Bauer have moved on. Or in the case of Sally Wagner, passed on.

WAKR, by the way, is an adult standards station whose news operation is shared with a country and rock station. Which should not surprise anyone since one of the most experienced radio people still left in this market is Clark Donley of Sunny 95/Smooth Jazz WJZA/Big Hits B107.

I moved to Columbus in 1992, when Clark was still a weekend sports anchor at WSYX. I may be wrong on this, but my guess is Clark's time in this market would come close to that of Pat Kennard and Larry States in Akron, and that the person with the next highest number of years in this market or this profession would be a distant second.

Just a thought.

I believe Scott Gerfen and Ken Stevens have been with WTVN for almost 10 years.
