A sign of declining ad revenues?

Even though NYC ranked only 22nd on the basis of cost of living of major world cities, behind Beijing, China (Mercer survey), Rush Limbaugh says he can't handle the high cost of NYC living and will sell his NYC property.

Lucky he didn't live in Moscow, the world's most costly city.
 
I agree with the tax issue. Talked with someone two or three years ago who had three homes. Spent four months of the year in each one following the weather and seasons. NYC metro area was the "legal" residence, thus the location for determining state income tax.

The person had the NYC metro home up for sale and was remodeling the Texas home to become the legal residence. Once that was in place and established... maybe vote there once and file at least one income tax year there, then go back and buy a nice condo in the NYC area and resume the normal seasonal rotation.

I still blink my eyes when I remember the amount of dollars to be save annually on state income tax alone.

Some business people need to be in NYC area no matter what it costs. That is "where the action is" for their line of work. Other people can flee.
 
While I fully understand the tax issue as anyone knows, New York is a very high tax state. And I cannot blame someone if the declare a low tax state as their legal residence to avoid some taxes. However I am sorry I have a hard time believing that Rush can't afford to live there or anywhere for that matter. Just how much does he make a year? I'm thinking that it is a bit over minimum wage. This looks like a typical Rush stunt to draw attention to him.
 
Remember the late Rev Gene Scott? He moved to an island, went on shortwave in addition to keeping a some local programming. There are quite a number of private islands with no tax and no real government, then he could stop complaining, maybe he could put in a small nuke power plant to run the transmitter?

I think you underestimate the sheer, raw hatred conservatives have for taxes of all kinds.

The very liberal Palm Beach, FL is not exactly inexpensive. Florida has some nasty real estate taxes.
 
I'm just trying to help the guy out..he doesn't like taxes, libs and government, he has the money to move anywhere he wants.

(In fact he told a Discovery Bay, California caller who was out of work and upside down in her house that: "she might have to pull up stakes" e.g. "move".)

Certainly a number of businesses have offshored. Remember L Ron Hubbard, or Maxwell, the British Tycoon, lived on ships?

I'll try to call him and ask him why he doesn't leave?
 
According to the NY Daily News, Rush only did 15 shows from New York last year. Probably not enough to maintain a residence there, which the Daily News says is a 4000 square foot penthouse in an area where similar digs have been selling for $10-million. The property taxes on that would have to be a pretty good amount.

BUT NO STATE INCOME TAX!!!!!!​

You can figure out ways to avoid FEDERAL Income Taxes on parts of your income, but most states have few exemptions. If you are making 20 or 30 million per year, you can afford housing just about anywhere. And the kind of housing you are likely to choose will be expensive ANYWHERE.

But to avoid state income tax on that kind of income? Get the moving vans on the way!

Um...I haven't listened to Rush Limbaugh in years and years, and he was already living in the very liberal Palm Beach.

Please let's not be so batty as to think Rush cares for a moment about taxes in New York--especially when, as one poster pointed out, he's ensconced most of the time in very expensive Palm Beach.

High taxes are simply a talking point for many conservatives with an ax to grind--whether it be running for office or hosting a right-wing moonbat talk show.

Some people in crowded elevators always think that someone is about to light a cigarette and asphyxiate everyone--even if there is no sign that such a thing is about to happen. Same thing with Republicans and taxes--many bitch about them even if they are in a situation in which they don't have to pay them.

Anti-tax talk is the official verbal laxative of the Republican party.
 
Having lived in Florida for a while--and constantly talking with normal folks from the rest of the country, Rush is merely pointing out what most of us know--New York is not the center of the universe.
 
Imagine those unfortunate people who have to put their noses to the grindstone every day and work hard to live above board and pay their NY taxes, but who haven't signed $400 million contracts.

...Dr. Gene Scott never moved to any island; he merely acquired a radio station on Anguilla, calling the station The Caribbean Beacon, and continued to feed it programming from his headquarters in Glendale, California. Scott never moved out of Glendale...
