Any Greenville listeners of the former "The Walk" format here?

I came across some information regarding the old hybrid Christian/Country format used by Entercom for a time
several years ago.

Does anyone remember this format? I'm interested in hearing about what you liked and disliked about it.

My stepson and his family live in Easley, so I did hear it a number of times. I actually liked it pretty well
and listened via streaming for a few months until the format switch to Greenstone late 2006.

Just curious about your thoughts and opinions of The Walk. Thanks!
 
never listened but you can count me as 1 on your thread

the signal was weak and management expected the talent and the overall concept to overcome it
 
True, it was on a couple of the lower end signals in the market. But more to the point...a couple of guys at Entercom thought they'd come up with a brilliant combination for a southern conservative market by cross-breeding the two formats. They had to stay away from the cheatin' and drinkin' country to make it blend with the Christian stuff. Problem was, when they did that, there wasn't much country left. It was a half-baked concept to begin with.
 
There is such a format as "Christian Country" but it doesn't have a Wikipedia article.

I guess it is to Hot Country what Classic Country is to Southern Gospel.
 
Most of the "The Walk" listeners that I knew (myself included) loved the format as it was, despite the absence of the cheatin' and drinkin' songs. It was something fresh that had never been done before.

When the format was on 103.3 and 103.9, the 103.9 transmitter by virtue of its Pickens county location had a good signal into all of Pickens county and into northern Anderson county. When the format was moved to 106.3, coverage was spotty into Pickens and Anderson counties, so most of those "The Walk" listeners were left out cold. The loss of the quality signal is what drove me and some other listeners elsewhere.
 
I have often felt Pickens County was more of the "Bible belt" than Greenville county and that's probably where a lot of the listeners were. IMO it was DOA, interesting concept but I never saw how it would last. Entercom did stick with it a while....even dropping a pretty successful oldies station (much better than The Walk) for it. Their idea - "let's combine two of the biggest formats in the area" - but it was just..odd. As more kilowatts said, the ratings did get worse when they moved it to 106.3, but that signal has always had problems.
