Any idea what the "Big Announcement" is on WHTQ friday at 5pm?

The commercial has a music bed of the bells from AC/DC's Hells Bells. The voice over says something about an announcement on Friday at 5pm. The spot mentions non-stop music and that 96.5 has a new meaning.

Any guesses or inside info?

The best way to make that discovery is to tune in at 5PM Friday to determine the meaning of the "BIG" announcement! Any predictions aside from inside information is pure speculation.

Bubba (BTLS) is saying this morning that WHTQ is possibly "posturing itself for new music" and that his show may soon be off in the Orlando area...

I assumed when I used the word "guesses" that readers would understand that I was referring to "speculation". From now on I'll use big words to convey a simple message. I'll just listen on Friday and stop trying to initiate any speculatory dialogue. My sincerest apologies to the readers, mods, and jmtillery.

We'll definately let you know. For some reason I don't see a format change but maybe something special on the weekends like hair metal or artist blocks. But then again, maybe the bells signify the end of the classic rock format.

The rumor seems to be fm talk.....WDBO FM. Seems like Cox is doing that with all the struggling markets. it would make sense considering what Bubba is saying.

This has been speculated for some time that either WPYO would move to 96.5 clearing 95.3 for a WDBO simulcast or an outright WDBO move to 96.5 may be in the works. Again, this is only speculation and there may be absolutely nothing to it. I've seen this before where a station "implies" it is "going away" when in reality it only makes a small tweak in programming or adds a special promotion.

Ex: A station I am well familiar with once promoted for two weeks that in X days radio station WXXX will become a memory. This implied a complete format change. When the day for the "change" came, all the station did was program oldies for the afternoon and gave away select prizes... The oldies music was the "memory" the station promoted itself to be. The following day this same station was back to "normal" programming. So, again, it may be most anything.

No apology is necesarry. I was simply stating that I have no speculatory offerings at this time; However, I did want to offer a comment out of common courtesy to you since you were kind enough to take the time to inform the rest of us there may be some kind of change or tweak in WHTQ's programming this week. Had you not brought this to our attention, I, for one, would not have known about it since I rarely, ever, listen to WHTQ. Once again, no apology is necessary while at the same time I thank you for the insight.

I didn't hear the show today, but they're scheduled to do an appearence in Orlando this Saturday. If it was me, unless I was already paid for it, I wouldn't go if my local affiliate does a complete format change that does not include my shows. What would I say to a bunch of angry former listeners besides WHTQ sucks.

Isn't the "Hells Bells" song used in Sports...?
If Bubba really said "posturing for new music", could it mean we might have a competitor for XL106.7?
Maybe they'll skew to newer rock to compete with JRR?

I can't hear the "Big Announcement", because I'm on-air at WPRK-FM 91.5 at 5pm.
If it's a format change, someone please aircheck it, because I'll be recording my own radio show. LOL! :D

Otherwise, I'll find out when I remember about this, or if I hear something other than Classic Rock on 96.5 while I'm manually scanning the dial later on.

For those who won't be listening to 96.5, I'll have NYC radio personality Judy Torres (from KTU) on my show. Just FYI. 8)

Friday 5pm wouldn't be my first choice for starting a N/T simulcast...first of all you're in the last hour of Hannity and then you start weekend talk stuff...not a stellar listening time for Cume, nor advertisers.

Friday 5pm would be good for a music change/adjustment...start a a thousand or 10,000 song marathon.

Time will tell.

There's a FB posting I've seen indicating Drew Garabo has a FB posting (I have not seen) that he has something to announce Friday also.

From the above link: the domain name 96rockorlando.com was registered.

So this could all be one big repositioning here.

Also, someone on the Tampa board is reporting that recently, BTLS has been coming back from breaks playing music. I wonder if that has any bearing on this "announcement"...

I am guessing a music tweak, move to compete with JRR. Can't see a DBO simulcast, although I know they would love to do just that.

The consultants have spoken. 96 Minutes of commercial free music at 5:00PM (we'll see how long that lasts). And a wider playlist (we'll just see how wide). First song out, Alive by Pearl Jam, then Tom Sawyer by Rush, now Black Dog by Led Zeppelin. If they don't play any currents, they'll just be an Orlando version of sister station WHPT in Tampa.
