Any Mid Hudson Valley Radio Stations On Sale ?

Just wondering if their are any Mid Hudson Valley Radio Stations on sale ?

Why? Are you buying?

Probably not.

Serious buyers know that serious sellers don't really want to make public announcements that they are for sale. Going out and selling advertising get's tough when the buyers learn the station is for sale. The hired help starts focusing on "Do I need to find a new job?" and that does help keep the station healthy.

Once in a while a station will be listed for sale, and the identity of the station will be made public. Usually you will find brokers advertising stations with a very general description... and when you call them, they will size you up (are you a buyer or a tire-kicker as car dealers say) and as soon as you sign a "non disclosure agreement" they will tell you which station(s) are for sale.

If the brokers knows you, or is convinced during the phone call you are a "trustable" person, they may tell you on the phone what is for sale, but you don't get to see the books and visit the station (and maybe the staff) until you sign the non-disclosure contract.

If you are considering buying a radio station, do yourself a favor and reconsider. Think about all the wonderful things that you could enjoy with the money and then pursue them.

Many of us share that kind of curiosity with you. I just know that most of the knowledge on the topic tends to stay "underground" until a deal is cut. So when curiosity gets the best of me, I try to remember who I know that I can call privately and see what they will share with me.

The curiosity that gnaws at me even stronger is the one that comes to mind when we learn that a given station indeed is for sale, or when they announce that a deal has been struck.

Why?

Why do they want to sell?

Why?

Why does the buyer want the turkey? Or why is the buyer willing to pay THAT MUCH for a station that my feeble little mind is sure cannot possibly be worth that much money?

And if you can cobble together some of those answers, there stories of joy and stories of heartbreak. Stories about marriages gone bad so the station has to be sold to settle the divorce agreements. A person in the family who was expected to eventually become the new leader dies unexpectedly. A station operator who was been working in the shadow of an unknown financial angel loses that relationship.... or finds a bigger, strong angel and is now ready to dump the little turkey station and go for dream "bad boy blowtorch" station.

Curiosity can be more entertaining than sitting around reading steamy novels. ;D

Then, thankfully common sense wins out and we forget all notions about buying a radio station.

I do need to hire a tower climber that knows a little about FM connections....
