Any today's R&B (no hip hop) only stations left in the U.S.?

WBLS-FM NY went "today's R&B and classic soul" last January. We no longer have a
today's R&B only station left in the NYC area.

Are there any such stations (playing only today's R&B and no hip hop) left in the country OR have they all switched to the new school/old school R&B format?

Todays Real R&B ( no Hip Hop Beats ) just dont sell and get very little airplay . So radio stations have to mix todays R&B with the classics . Its a shame that WBLS change there format . Because they was a great radio station for R&B music Lovers . It no outlet ( that i know of ) for R&B only .( VH One Soul is now playing some Hip Hop video's )<P ID="signature">______________

WJMZ actually does play some hip hop in their rotation mainly during the timeslots of 3 to 6PM, 6 to 10PM, and 2 to 4AM. They're more or less like the former WBLS that was a true Urban Contemporary.

I could only dream of Dallas getting a station like that...again. back in 2001, 105.7 KRNB was that type of station, and it was a breath of fresh air. Their slogan was, "New R&B". India Irie, Jill Scott, Remy Shand, Brian McNight, and Faith Evans were just some of the artists you would hear on 105.7. Bring it back KRNB!....

To answer your question....the only place you'll find pure R&B is on the internet. Most of their playlist are non -current R&B to beach music, to Northern soul. Live 365 Soulsville, Soul Shack, Intersoul. It's like trying to find active or current rock on the Hit charts and the radio dial.
Today's classic soul & today's R&B are even leaning toward hispanics, at least on the west coast.

OK, if that's what you think. Those posted the overall numbers are just a portion of the story. Ad revenue and #'s in each indiviual demo is the rest.<P ID="signature">______________

I like the artists you mentioned. However,I doubt they will bring it back because KRNBs current ratings are the best in recent memory, about as good as you can hope for considering the signal.

In 2005, wouldn't you listen to an Urban AC for R&B? Kiss-FM in New York plays lots of classic soul, but lots of current stuff too.

On LIVE365 I found a station called INTERSOUL. These guys play everything....all hits, but alot of hits you haven't heard in awhile. Lots of Dance Hits 60's thru 80's and Beyond.

We don't have an exclusive R&B station in L.A. anymore KJLH is not an Urban AC anymore it's considered Urban Contemporary. KJLH is playing Hip Hop now. Their airstaffer's are uncivilized expect for Lon McQ and Kevin Nash. Nautica De La Cruz doesn't fit with the station. She sounded ok when she was Power 106 in the 90's, then in like 2001 she went to KKBT 100.3 The Beat and was one of Steve Harvey's "angels". But nobody expected her to be on KJLH. Nautica De La Cruz is a Project Chick from NYC so you see why she's so over the top.

Los Angeles is nearly 80% hispanic. They do not like certian R&B songs. Thats no suprise. Major radio companies own alot of the LA stations and they only use the formats to make a profit and all R&B station in Los Angeles wont satisfy those big exc. suites. KBLX is the only R&B station in California. Most of their listeners come in from Oakland CA. They have a large african american population vs. Los Angeles. Rythnmic Oldies stations in California, Arizona, and Nevada serve Hispanics first. Its r&b just 60's 70's 80's and early 90's.

Arizona is a warm climate except during the nights and winter. Home property is cheaper there vs. Los Angeles so that explains the dominated hispainic population. Rythnmic Oldies are 95% R&B. They just focus on 60's 70's 80's and early 90's rythnmic r&b hits and freestyle music.

I already know this. KHHT only plays R&B that mexicans know. Power 106 choosey over R&B because of mexican listeners.

My point is not just being from Arizona. This topic notes that fewer station are playing newer music. This trend, to me, would suggest that there will be fewer artist that create good R&B music overall. Artist like Usher who already said he won't do any R&B music anymore, why?, because of the trend against it like it is dying. If stations are mostly playing Rythmic oldies, what happens for the next generation. They will be out of touch with those oldies and the genre doesn't survive. Also we are entering the internet playing field, meaning a station shouldn't play to demographics as much as it should play to people who can stream on their Iphone to build their station. Location will have less & less domination on what format is played in a given area.
