could just be doing some work on it.. happens all the time on the WX Radio station down here.

I don't reside in Philly, please explain to me what especially equipped radio is or you need. When I first read this post...Is he refering to NOAA weather radio? That should be in the police scanner or public utility board something. That's why I felt lost for a moment.

That is a weather radio frequency and since it applied to Philly, I think this board is as go0d as any other.

He's talking NOAA weather radio, something that isn't the least bit unique to this area. You just need a weather band radio, something that a lot of walkman-type radios include.

By the way, Canada has their own version - and they use the same frequencies as NOAA does.

yes we do...the one here in Ottawa is English/French and even has the whole warning system NOAA uses. The French annoys me though..cuz if you tune in, and you're just trying to get a temperature, you might have to sit through the french part of the forecast before you get your info...they should split them into 2 frequencies...one English, one French.

Taking this thread waaaaay off track (an express hijacking): yes, I listened to the English/French EC radio station when in Pembroke, ON and came away with the same impression. Why not split them? Oh well, at least both announcements were pretty comprehensive.

Try being in El Paso, TX and using a walkman to get your weather info (as they are not very sensitive/selective on wx band). The only weather radio station I could get was NOAA's Spanish station from nearby Santa Maria, NM - despite staying right by the El Paso airport! In that case, I couldn't get an English language broadcast at all! Apparently, there is one. But the stronger Spanish broadcast (with 3x the power) wins out by a mile.

Most walkman style radios have enough trouble separating stations that are 0.4 MHz apart, let alone weather stations that are 0.075 MHz apart. The tuners just aren't selective enough to pull that off. For that, you need an actual weather radio.

KIH-28 provides Philly weather over the (specially-equipped) radio, so I don't see why not.

They're off the air while they're readying a flip to a dance format, playing alternate versions of all your favorite dance hits with Perfect Paul providing all vocals :)

Thanks Julius, you prevented me from being rained on.....anyway, what does NOAA weather have to do with the Philly board. Are they PPM rated? How is the police radio transmitting back there? Is the encryption down? OK folks....let's start a new thread....alright everyone, who's your favorite radio dispatcher on the VHF/UHF band. There's a hottie that transmits paramedic calls 151.8650 MHZ. I wonder if she has as many listeners as NOAA radio. Let's hear it.
