Anyone have a picture of a HD transmitter antenna?

I'd like to see a picture of one, or does it look like a analog transmitter antenna? I have my Sangean HD-1 hooked back up trying it again. If anyone has any tips on how I can improve the HD reception that would be helpfull. I believe my FM antenna is fried by lightling, it doesnt work well any more. For now I am using a Dipole antenna. I can only pull in Austin HD. I want to pull in San antonio also. I may try HD radio one more time. I probably wont be able to get anything at my place in Lavaca county, but I may try there as well. One last time.

The way that HD radio currently is (approx 1% TPO), if you can't get a rock-solid analog signal, there's no way in heck you're going to get the HD digital signal, especially for rimshots. There is no HD-DX, they don't want DX, you're not their target audience.

Now, if your station is testing 10% digital, you might have a chance of the HD signal matching the analog contour.

NPR Testing Labs has determined if you have interfering stations on both sides of your target HD station that you may have a 10dB drop in signal on your HD signal level, which usually isn't enough to lock.

In general, you're going to need a decent FM antenna - a chunk of metal up in the air; also, for AM, you need to keep the loop as far away as possible from the radio/tuner, as the tuner generates quite a bit of hash on the AM band.

In most cases the HD transmitting antenna is the analog antenna - the station transmits both the HD and analog through the same antenna. In many cases (on AM, in all cases) the HD and analog are also transmitted by the same transmitter.

As with most things radio, the antenna is the key. For AM, put up as much wire as you can as high in the air and clear of obstructions as you can. For FM, a good-sized outdoor VHF TV antenna is your best shot.

If that were true, which could be because the stations I want wont come in HD, why would the rimshots turn on HD? KDHT is a rim in Austin, I'm 30 miles south (in my home place) I can acually pull in the HD signal. If they would turn on more 10% power I may would be able to pull in all the stations I would like to get in the fringe.

thats really stupid.... wouldnt they want their station to go out as far as possible?

i mean, in the eastern philly suburbs, theres people listening to jersey shore stations, and whenever someone from PA calls in, they play their voices on the air saying how great they are.

btw, im refering to 105.7 The Hawk...they kick ass

Are you sure about that?

It has nothing to do with target audience. DXing HD is possible, especially with AM radio. Someone on here posted a video of WBAP-HD being received in College Station, TX, which is about 150 miles outside of DFW. As for DXing with FM stations, it is harder but still very possible. I was driving to Florida and when I was in Lafayette, I picked up WQUE-HD out of New Orleans, which is about 120 miles. Not bad for HD. So it is possible to DX HD, but A LOT harder than analog because they can't broadcast HD stations at full power. The reason they can't broadcast at full power is because it will cause a hissing sound on their analog signal.

So until analog goes away (i doubt that will ever happen..and if it does happen, it won't be anytime soon), HD will never be able to go as far as an analog signal.
