Anyone know of a new full-wattage 97.7 signal that will overlap in the Upstate?

I've been hearing through the grapevine that Chuck 97.7 FM may be moving 99.5 in June due to a new full-wattage signal on 97.7. It sounds like it's a new station outside of GSP market but with overlapping coverage.

If I had to take a guess, it would be a Charlotte station and it doesn't look like that frequency has any operations there ATM.

I can't imagine that it would be for Charlotte. WPEG (97.9 MHz) already puts out a Powerful Signal for Charlotte and the Surrounding Area. They were Originally from Concord but with them now on the TV Tower in Dallas/Gastonia, it does not seem that 97.7 would be destined for the Charlotte Metro. Steve.

It is changing frequency due to interference expected from the upgrade of WMGZ, Eatonton, GA.

See here: https://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/w...t=25&appn=101546940&formid=349&fac_num=156241

Here is the new WMGZ signal: http://fccdata.org/?facid=41993&appid=1679373&i=2

WMGZ, of course, is not trying to serve SC with the upgrade. And it definitely will not get a signal of any consequence into GSP.

It will barely get a usable signal (65 dbu is inside the red circle on the map) into South Carolina and will not serve any significant city in that state. It will be more of an Athens, GA, rimshot than anything else. In fact, the owner's corporate office is in Athens, but the station says it serves the "Lake District". It is moving from Eatonton to Lexington, but still not enough signal in SC to serve any significant market.

True- but Ted Mccall who owns 97.7 in Greenville believes there willbe enough interference to force him to change frequecy. Read the bottom of the FCC app. It wont be a GSP station, but it probably could interfere with 97.7's almost class A signal.

Have the plans to move Chuck-FM from 99.7 to 99.5 been dropped or delayed? Reports indicated a change in June, but it is now July and nothing has yet transpired. So for now I can still receive WBT on 99.3 on my home radio without issue, including the HD. Although car reception has been wiped out since the Georgia station on 99.3 increased power.

Good question. Summit was without an OM in Greenville for a while until last week. Wonder if that had something to do with it.

But honestly, I haven't noticed any deterioration in Chuck's signal. Maybe they scrapped it realizing it wasn't going to have as much effect.
