Anyone know what the current annual radio revenues are expected to be this year?

Can you spell LESS! On the bright side, most broadcasting intellegence indicates revenue has bottomed. The competition from the largest variety of recorded music sources however is forcing some deep thinking into inovative presentations. In fact, the most discussed is more local involvment, a la what smaller market radio has been most successful at ALWAYS.

Who is discussing more innovative presentations and more local involvement because it doesn't show up on the dial in this market? Almost every station uses syndication or out-of-town voice tracking for at least one shift between 5AM and midnight: KXEZ 92.1 all day satellite, KZPS 92.5 middays, KDBN 93.3 AM drive, KNOR 93.7 AM drive, KLNO 94.1 (all non-local from LA?), KSOC 94.5 AM and PM drive, KSCS 96.3 evenings, KEGL 97.1 AM drive and middays, KLAK 97.5 nights, KBFB 97.9 AM drive, KLUV 98.7 evenings, KFZO 99.1/KDXX 107.1 AM drive and afternoon, KPLX 99.5 nights, KWRD-FM 100.7 (various national religious shows), KDGE 102.1 middays, KDMX 102.9 middays and PM drive, KESN 103.3 mornings, KVIL 103.7 evening, KTDK 104.1 9pm-Mid, KRLD-FM 105.3 10pm-on, KRNB 105.7 AM drive, KHKS 106.1 AM drive and middays, ...

Don't forget, Jack uses LOCAL voicetracking 24-7. ;D And I believe KVIL and KMVK are V/T'ed overnights (or just generic liners over canned music from hard drive.)

Revenues? Whatever number you might come up with, be sure to add a (-) negative sign before the amount. It's not just the sorry state of radio and its inability to reinvent itself amidst new technology that's screwing with the revenues...it's also the economy. Your average business owner will cut marketing costs first when they have to make cuts somewhere. Oh, and factor in the pennies-on-the-dollar that terrestrial radio stations are worth now, and you've got one hell of a loss to try to make up.

But I do have some ideas for prospective careers of radio folks who get cut due to this lack of revenue: Become a bankruptcy attorney. Or perhaps sell signs that say, "Going Out of Business" and stock up on rolls of tape to hang them with. Also, buy and sell used audio equipment--buy cheap from folding stations and sell off to 'home studio' voiceover/production folks for a premium.

somewhere between zero and nil.

Actually the stations will show a slight uptick in profit come the second week of December when the annual holiday job elimination pageant rolls around once more.

YOU SIR ARE ABSOLUTELY CORRECT! As soon as the next wave of lay offs happen, the station overhead will be lower then the income and it will be a profit margin. ::)

I'm out of state - not in the marekt. I'm just trying to do some research, though obviously you guys [and gals] aren't fairing any better than the rest of the industry. Does anyone actually have a number, or a "guess" timate?

2009 Mkt spend should be about $280 million.....down from 2008 $351 mil...about -22%
