Nationally about $14 billion, down 15% from last year, which was already down about 8% from 2007. That's according to BIA Services, the media stock and revenue watch and investment company.
Note: Mark Fratrik, a VP at BIA, says radio is primed for a bright future, pointing out that radio is being smart in making format changes, especially to "all-news," which is seeing a nearly 10% rise in listenership this year over last year.

That being said, I wonder how a concept like NBC's NIS (News and Information Service) that ran in the mid-70's would work today. Nice mix of network and local news. I listened to it frequently while it lasted...nice to be able to get a news fix in 20 to 30 minutes, then head back to music elsewhere.
NIS only lasted two years, but perhaps it was just waaaaaaayyy ahead of its time.
I'm not familiar with the old NIS. Please explain. How can a network deliver national and local news? I have an idea but I'd like to hear your explanation.
NBC News and Information Service was ahead of it's time. KLYX 102.1 was the local affiliate. They had local news people who did their part wherever the newswheel dictated. Simply put, there was time for local affiliates to do their thing.
Anyone have an idea of Houston total radio revenue - Thanks but I've seen the national numbers. Some one pegs Dallas at about $280mil - any "guess"timates there in Houston?
