Anyone remember "Heart Of R&R" with "Knoxville" at the end?

30 years later and when I still hear Huey Lewis & The News "Heart Of Rock & Roll" I say "Knoxville, TN" at the end. As a kid I didn't know it wasn't part of the album version. Was wondering if anyone here has a copy of it. Would like to hear that one again.

I'm thinking that cities were paired together on that one. For instance, the "Knoxville" version also had "Nashville" on it, and I remember hearing that one back when I first moved here (but again, not lately).

When Huey Lewis played Mud Island back when "Heart of R&R" was a hit, he admitted in an interview on FM 100 that he had left Memphis out of the "Heart of R&R."

I had a thread about this on the '80s board here a few years back. Maybe someone can still find it.

Yes, several versions had two cities pared together including the "Knoxville, Nashville" version. This version was played on B97.5 as recently as 2013. For some reason though, they switched to playing the non-localized single version. I'm not sure why they switched. It may be because the single version is shorter, or it may be that the copy of the localized version they played belonged to the former PD who left around that time and he took it with him.

I recently heard "Heart of Rock & Roll" over Mix 92.9 in Nashville, sister station of B 97.5 Knoxville. I did not think that I had ever heard any additional "shout-outs" on the end of the song there, and sure enough, there were none.

I just heard “The Heart of Rock and Roll” with “Knoxville , Nashville Tennessee” in it today on a Knoxville station! I thought that version was long gone! Now... who wants to guess which station played it today? Winner gets a hearty congratulations.

Nashville market myself, and I would love to have a copy of it! (Heard it on the old WLAC-FM when I first moved here back in '92.) Would love a Memphis version, too, if one exists.

I definitely remember the two city versions & the local one was “Knoxville, Nashville, Tennessee”. Honestly haven’t heard it on the radio since the 80s though. (WIMZ played it a lot when it was out). If I’m not mistaken, the localized Chattanooga version which I also heard a lot had Chattanooga & Miami as the two cities paired. And speaking of localized shout outs & special versions; another from the 80s was Billy Idol’s “Hot In The City” where each market had the “New York” shout out replaced with the local city name.

Well I finally have a copy of it now! I mentioned two weeks ago I heard it on a Knoxville station. Since then I’ve been extensively recording said station and they finally played it again this morning while I was recording.

Can you send me a copy of that, please? I collect sound files of this nature to donate to the Tennessee Radio Hall of Fame. I have already sent them quite a few in the past. Thanks!
