Apollo Global, Already Buying Cox TV, Said To Be Interested In Cox Radio

Inside Radio is reporting that Apollo Global Management, which has an agreement to acquire Cox TV, is rumored to be in talks to purchase Cox Radio. Of course, Apollo is buying the Cox radio stations and newspaper in the Dayton market as part of the TV deal.

The article states that Hubbard and Beasley are said to have interest in specific Cox Radio markets, but that Cox does not want a piecemeal sale. I had been thinking that Hubbard would be a good owner for WSB radio.

One thing for sure, the union will be out of there. Saddled with all that debt, they'll probably operate it on the cheap- much like 46.

Given these people are going to be cutting every cost they can, WSB 750/95.5 is in the crosshairs. They have no meaningful competition and nobody really even trying, so there is no reason to spend any money on that operation. Expect lot of cuts. The traffic copter flew over me on my commute this morning. Nice to have. But nobody else flies one in Atlanta, and even WSB gets along fine without it during the 20 hours a day it's not flying. Why does WSB have to spend $800+ a hour putting it in the sky? (Worse when TV and radio both have their helicopters flying) That thing is going to get grounded fast.

If they downsize or outsource enough, I could even see White Columns going up for sale. It's huge and a chunk of prime real estate. The new owners are going to cut so much fat off that place, the remaining staff might fit in a disused McDonalds or at least a cheaper location. The transmitter site at Northlake might also get sold off. WSB has a lot of assets the new owners won't feel nostalgic for whatsoever.

Traffic Copter?
Have you seen those Mercedes Benz live trucks they have for TV? No Ford Econolines for them! They are very high. Looks like you could stand up in them.
They would probably have trouble going under some of those railroad trestles in old Atlanta.
But what difference does it make to the viewer if the live shot is coming from a Mercedes truck or a Ford truck? Hmm.
