April 2nd-On this day in TV history-Legends debut+ended

1956-Both daytime serials As The World Turns and The Edge of Night debut on CBS. They are the first two half-hour dramas. As The World Turns, created by Irna Phillips(of Guiding Light fame), is still on today. 50 years later, it's still on, with orginial castmember Helen Wagner still playing the matriarchal role of Nancy Hughes to this very day. Their 50th anniversary program is tomorrow. The Edge of Night moved to ABC in 1975 and was cancelled at the end of 1984. Both shows are/were produced by Procter and Gamble.

1971-The daytime serial Dark Shadows airs its final episode, having been on ABC Daytime since 1966.

1978-A big day for the primetime soaps as well:Dallas premieres.
