April Fools jokes, stunts in Bos. radio/ now and in past

One year WILD played country instead of soul. At least during the morning show.

WFNX DJ: "We promise we won't do any April Fools stuff, not us. We'll be right back with the
new song by the Beatles in just a moment." (And it wasn't the year(s) when Real Love
and Free as a Bird came out)

WMWM: One year, top 40 (Madonna etc)

This year, WROR: All Beatles

TV division: IIRC, the volcano in the Blue Hills erupted--April Fool!--so said Ch. 7. Reportedly someone
thought it was real and let the horses out of their barn, etc.

WCRN's Peter Blute "announced" this morning out of the 6 a.m. news that he has formed an exploratory committee to run for governor in 2010 complete with a new website. I don’t remember the website address so I couldn’t check to find out how far they are carrying this April Fool’s stunt.

WBZ - LeVeille's "earworm" show; a total flop IMO, for an April Fools joke. It would have been an excellent joke if he would have pulled a John Grayson feed for the whole night, as he originally intended to do, pretending the he once again got the axe. Guess he didn't have the B_ _ _ S to follow thru on it. ::)

I didn't hear Leveille last night but by earworm do you mean the show he was doing a week or two back when he asked people to nominate songs, etc. that stick in your head and stay there? Songs, or maybe jingles
like the McD's Fillet of Fish song etc

Yes, it looks like LeVeille reprised the "earworm" program he did a week or so ago last night. At least in the 4AM hour.

I can take only so much Sukiyaki(sp?) done in a Dixeland style with kazoo accompaniment.

Yes that would have been cool, but Steve said on the air that he presented the idea to his colleagues at BZ--- and they said it wouldn't be such a good idea.

Yeah, the nerve of him, opting to remain employed over giving a few radio nerds their jollies--- Phttttt!

AFAIK, he mentioned it to "one" fellow co-worker who seemed like he/she was basically neutral on the bit.

Can you imagine the response from a bit like that? It would put 'BZ back on the map, maybe even pull in a few new, possibly younger listeners. A stunt like that would be the talk of the town. But then again, no one ever accused CBS management of coming up with an original concept.

As a side note;

How about the "rip-off" promos that 'BZ is running right now? The Geico commercial spoof, The Talking Heads song from the 80's...There are a couple other ones I can't think of right now.

Original radio to the max...Speaking of Max, or M-A-X, as "Lee from Boston" as referred to him in last nights' call. ;D I say do more shows about MAX, many more shows. Put up a page of pics & MAX's Bio on radiosteve.com. We all want more MAX!!!

Very tame April Fools stunting this morning over in Worcester on 100FM The Pike. Cruisin Bruce Palmer played the part of Oldies 98-9's morning guy Adam Webster (who does the morning newsbreaks on The Pike) and vice versa. Webster (calling himself Cruisin Bruce Palmer) did all the dj'ing from 6am to maybe 730ish and Palmer (calling himself Adam Webster) did the newsbreaks. It was amusing at times but got old kinda quickly.

I don't know if they reciprocated on Oldies 98-9 because I didn't switch over but WXLO's Jen Carter normally does 98-9's taped morning newsbreaks (although it's been awhile since I listened to 98-9 so that might have changed).

WVBF once played a stunt back in 1975 that The Beatles had reunited. They even had a George Harrison sound alike on the phone saying they all were meeting at the Waldorf Astoria hotel for the official announcement. Had me totally duped.
