Arby’s To Air 13-Hour Commercial On Duluth, Minn., TV Station

The fast food chain will promote its Smokehouse Brisket Sandwich by running a Yule Log-esque film of a brisket being smoked for 13 hours at a smokehouse in Texas, according to a New York Times report. The brisket will then be removed and sliced, and a sandwich made. The commercial will air on the local affiliate of MyNetworkTV from 1 p.m. Saturday-2 a.m. Sunday and then streamed at www.13hourbrisket.com on Wednesday from 9 a.m.-10 p.m. The entire cost of the promotion is estimated to be $250,000.

I would not watch that program, but I would eat that sandwich.

Compared to Armando Montelongo, the Yanceys and Than Merrill buying all the TV slots for their ballroom flipping seminars...this is downright original (and probably looks delicious). There's a sales exec at KBJR who's getting a new Corvette for making this ad sale.

Worst. Idea. Ever. Save the 13-hour marathon for Christmas Eve/Day and the fireplace.

Worst. Idea. Ever.

Oh, I don't know. If I had the choice of sitting thorugh a one-time marathon barbecue or the 150-milllionth showing of "Larry King Special Report" or that "Smart (more accurately, Dumb) Medicine" fraud I know what I'd want to watch (at least in pieces) - and it's tasty. This assumes that I have nothing better to do, but I digress.

Thing is, I probably won't buy that sandwich anyway. I don't like cheese, mayo and onions on my sandwiches. And where's the lettuce? I'll stick to the regular roast beef that I can load up at home.

^Did you mean you don't like the idea of eating cheese, mayonnaise, and onions together as part of a sandwich, or the idea of eating cheese, mayonnaise, or onions as part of a sandwich.

I have eaten it. And it is quite good! My thinking about this 13-hour smoking is that they would have to smoke it overnight, while the restaurant is closed! And no, I am not interested in seeing the commercial, either. Can't Arby's find better ways to invest that money, like give it to a charity or something?

Here in Connecticut Arby's is dying. Milford and Bristol both were bought out by Sonic creating the first two Sonic's with dining rooms. Cheshire closed. Berlin closed. Newington is rumored to be closing and becoming a Sonic. There are 2 near me but you couldn't pay me to eat there. One in the Plantsville section of Southington and one on Route 69 in Waterbury.

Maybe Arby's can have a telethon! Call up Jerry Lewis and see what he is doing this Memorial Day Weekend. All the money goes to making new menu items for Arby's.

What a creative concept. I bet they get a lot of press for this and amplify the impact of the ad dollars spent.

Had I not read about this stunt in this forum, I never would have known about it. If it's getting press, I'm not seeing any of it.

It'll be available online soon. (PS: Bet you wonder how it ends...)

Whoop Dee Doo! What matters is the publicity to inform people who haven't seen the post here in RadioDiscussions.com that the stunt occurred. Links to news reports that are seen by ordinary people would be convincing. The fact that it will be available online soon means nothing. Anyone can post almost anything on YouTube, but if no one knows it's there, few people will stumble across it.

Like maybe using real roast beef in their sandwiches instead of that ground-up loaf..

There's still one on Route 5 in North Haven, where -- speaking of dead chains -- Roy Rogers used to be.
