I don't know how you guys feel in connecticut... but it seems though some of the cable systems throughout portions of the state no longer get any stations from NYC in mainly in the central & eastern parts because of what happened with syndex in 1989, the Cable Act of 1993 which dropped all must carry stations, & mostly the demographics which the programs should be carried, too. Could you explain what has been happening? Thanks.

A lot of that can also be blamed on the WB and UPN networks starting up in 1995. WSBK went UPN, WPIX went WB and WWOR went UPN, although we here in greater Hartford were only receiving their EMI-Eastern Microwave service by then anyways.
But a few years ago we lost WNBC because some stupid politican made it a rule that CT-N the channel that shows what's happening in the Connecticut Goverment must be shown on Basic Cable. Previosuly CT-N was on Digital Cable. :'(I for one was upset that WSBK left Cox Cable CT in 2001. So, I got DISH Network in early 2006. I saw the last eight or so months of UPN38 and now the Independent TV38. I would have to think that 38 would need to get more programming that isn't almost identical to every local station to be brought back to regional cable systems. I'm hoping it stays put on DISH Network. Right now I like their choice of movies and The Three Stooges, but that's it.
Why should any Connecticut cable system besides those in Fairfield County carry any New York City stations at all?

I've always liked getting out-of-market stations, whether over-the-air or on cable, but most cable systems only carry the local stations now.

Wait, how are you gonna get low-power channel 48 from Hartford down in Southington? I'm in New Britain and I don't even get it.
In December 2006 I bought a cheap indoor antenna at Big Lots. I hooked it up to my TV and got Channel 48 (which I had never heard of) and Channel 50 (which I knew was previously Channel 13). Depending on the direction of my antenna I could either not get the channel at all, get an unwatchable signal from it, or a snowy, but watachable signal.

FWIW..United Cable in 1980 (Plainville and Bristol) had WNEW-5, WOR-9, WPIX-11, WCBS-2 (late night), and WXTV-41. All gone now (along with the Springfields 40 and 22, and WSBK).

I remember the WXTV/WUVN snafoo.
Funny...the lure of cable intially for many was the imported stations from MY and Boston. In the age of syndication and fragmentation (from many more channels), these NYC stations largely became "obsolete".
For some reason..WGN never really made an imprint in CT as a replacement for the NY channels.

When Southern New England Telephone had its own cable company - Americast - they carried WGN. While SNET Americast was not available in my town (Bristol) it was available in New Britain where I went to High School. (EC Goodwin Tech). A few of my classmates had SNET Americast. Problem with Americast was they shared the same headend as TCI so if TCI had a technical problem so did Americast.

Nothing out-of-state listed for New Britain (06052). Only channels 3, 30 and 61 are offered in HD. I also get channels 8 and 20 with Comcast right now.
