Are mix weekends/holidays becoming a thing of the past?

I'm complaining about 97.9 The Beat here in Dallas, but listening online, I noticed that alot of stations are not mixing all weekend. Is this a dying thing? If so, I sure hate it, because that used to be the highlight of my weekends.

Jamn 94.5 (Boston) used to have mix shows, all holiday weekend long, but not anymore. Holiday ( Weekend ) mix shows are DEAD in Boston.

Radio is just a big joke now...

I hope not. That's the main reason I want to do radio & have been doing for FREE on 2 stations in 2 markets for the past 3 years - as long as I can spin whatever I want - while at the same time, compromising to stick with the station's or show's format.

I drive 2 hours to & from to spin for 2 hours voluntarily on a Top-40. Everyone says I'm nuts, but I see it as my time to shine. Who said good help isn't cheap? Hoping to get paid soon, though. ;)
