Are questions such as "Do female jocks make or break radio success??" insulting?

Just wondering if anyone in here is thinking clearly.

No, not one bit insulting, it's a simple question... and when you're talking strict business (because at the end of the day, it's all one big money-making beast) gender, spontaneity, humor, ease, and straight talent are all big gambles for broadcasting companies. Hiring the "male old-time that's past his prime" has a different affect on success and straight ratings than hiring a young female. Sex sells, and nothing will EVER change that.

All I wanted to know was whether there was any truth behind the "token mid-day female jock" or whether we've just been doing it so long that no one really knows WHAT makes or breaks radio success...

It was never meant to be insulting, and I dont doubt your talent one bit, not having met you, Broadcastress.

All in all... gender has an impact in EVERY working environment, and this one is no different... if anything, it has MORE of an impact on this business... Radio is just one way of saying a business that's in it to play music, relate to people, have some comedic relief, compete with the next best alternative in town, and then come out on top and make a buck... just like everything else, except this job is in the "limelight" so to speak, making it's potential workers and jocks... the ultimate money-makers.

End of story.

Babe, b-a-b-e !

It's okay it's all okay.
You want a full time job in radio? Post your request to fryman.
He needs someone to get his coffee, lite cream of course.
Why you probably can work your way up to doing a little weather now and then.
Nothing too complicated. Those of us in the on air biz call it "light lifting radio talk."

But hun, whatever you end up doing in radio, don't ever, ever draw attention to the breadth or width of boy jock butts.
That's just plain low!

Seeing as that (if I'm not mistaken) it was a female jock who submitted the original post in question (DO FEMALE JOCKS MAKE OR BREAK RADIO SUCCESS??), I believe the answer is "no".
