ARE THE OLYMPICS WORTH $5 BILLION? NBC LOST 223 MILLION IN VANCOUVER

Feels like NBC might lose more money in Vancouver given the Stanley Cup Final.

For the past few years (2008, 2009, 2010)NBC could count on two home markets' viewership attentions. With Hockey Night in Canada stealing one of those home markets, this matchup probably is a dud for NBC.

Maybe NBC could cut its losses by televising only the Olympic opening and closing events thus capturing the "young female" demo.

As for me, I realize I am not in anyone's target demo any longer (unless Depends signs up as a major sponsor) but I have completely lost interest in the Games and especially the terrible coverage of the past decade by American networks.

I agree... I know I will catch heat for saying this, but I've lost interest because of all the "pro-American" bias there is put on by the American networks. If we are not good at a sport, it seems like it's shoved to the sidelines, and the sports we show, it's about the American athletes. I think it should be completely unbiased, just like the American news currently is (LMAO!!! :D ) But truthfully, there are sports that we aren't good at, but should show anyways, and the sports we are good at, I think the coverage should be spread equally among all the athletes.

Two decades ago I could watch the Games on CBC and the coverage was incredible compared to the talk-fests that American TV broadcasts.

I can still catch most of the events online but I find I just don't care any more.

The A.P. reports NBC will win the U.S. TV rights for the Olympics again (four-games deal).

So all the complaints of coverage in this thread are to be perpetuated. ::)

No, they're not the Olympic Commitee much like the NFL are greedy bastards it's suppose to be a two way street the Olympics and NFL make money and the networks make money but because they're so greedy and the networks pay up foolishly they lose their shirt more often than not.
