Are there any similarities between Dominos, CC, Staples, ans Sports Authority?

I just read an article about Bain Capital and how it is supposedly supposed to turn those companies around. It mentioned Staples having to lay off 150 employees at its headquarters when it bought another company, and after earnings for Dominos dropped, it had to lay off about 50 people. What are the similarities here? CC appears to have layed off many more than these, possibly combined. Let me see if I can get a link to the article.
 
Sorry if anyone is waiting for me to post the link. When I got done posting that I went looking for it on the Washington Post and couldn't find it.
