Are there any uses for a portable pre DTV receiver? Someone wants mine. Hmm

Probably not good for anything more than watching local LPTV channels. Soon, they will go digital too.

Thanks.

I listened a few months back to see if there was anything 'new' but there was nothing.

If I recall correctly, the band was 'needed' for emergency services.

Don't you know. Everything is a crisis to our federal gub'ment. Just like this phony crisis that we must upgrade our EAS boxes to recieve the alerts that FEMA isn't sending.

Could be used a monitor for DX from Mexico or Canada

Yes.

I won't part with it or toss it. You never know.

Just like my (not all that old) Bearcat Scanner, which is now also useless for it's intended purpose.

Thanks for the feedback.

Turns out the reason was something about generating some sort of White Noise.

If used with one of those digital converter boxes the US government was subsidizing several years ago, an analog TV receiver tuned to Ch 2 or 3 will display a rather noise- and ghost-free 4:3 picture from OTA pickups of DTV stations.

I'm using that setup on a basement TV I seldom watch, to save the cost of a cable box.

Those converter boxes are a hot ticket at the Walmart in the "Mexican" area of south Nashville. They can't keep them on the shelves.
