Are those Tanya Roberts spots putting L.A. stations in legal jeapordy?

Re: Am I the only one????

In spite of the dopey spots, like Tanya Roberts, I actually find her style to be funny, very retro 50's charm. I can't believe anyone would associate her spot with KNX's problems, get a life.

Agreed completely.

I have a great life, and much better since 2001, when I got XM. Sirius is pretty good too. Tanya Roberts-free.

She is LYING to people, roping them into a timeshare fraud, and that means shge has loose morals.

Drug dealers choose to make their living selling poison to kids.

If someone makes an obviously immoral decision, it our obligation as free members of society, with a voice, to point it out.

Hello? That describes about every commercial that's aired on radio. Promos too.<P ID="signature">______________

In my not-so-humble opinion, someone who listens to satellite radio all or most of the time disqualifies himself from commenting on local terrestrial radio.<P ID="signature">______________

she's reading a SCRIPT. this is probably not her opinion. it is a script that ms. roberts got paid to read.

since you obviously do not know her, how can you say she has loose morals?

i don't know you, therefore you have 13 toes. i deduced this from what you have written in this forum.

makes about as much sense as what you are saying. <P ID="signature">______________

Does this mean we can lock up every laywer as they are PAID to lie! Geeez, I HOPE so!

The lady is a tramp

And in my humble opinion, someone who would say this qualifies as a bloviating industry cheerleader.

But since you ask, the ratio of my local-sat listening is about 50-50, not that it matters one iota.

And if the Tanya Roberts ads are come-ons for timeshare sales, then they fraudulent in their very nature and she should be criminally charged.

The original question in this thread is a good one. Does KNX commit a crime by airing the spots, probably not. Is there an FCC violation? Probably not. Should Tanya Roberts find a good attorney? Probably.

You're entitled to your opinion, but I think there are many who would agree that a significant amount of <u>local</u> listening would be a prerequisite for critiquing same.

> But since you ask, the ratio of my local-sat listening is

See above whether or not it matters. I would accept a 50-50 split between local and satellite to be significant enough. I did say (see requote above) that "all or most of the time" would be an amount of satellite listening that would raise the question of credibility. 50% is not "all or most of the time".

Her? Or the people she was hired by to be a spokesperson?

So now you're a law professor too?<P ID="signature">______________

Been there, bored with that. Local commercial broadcasting long ago decided not to program to me anymore. As a 49-year-old male, damn few stations even care that I exist.

So now who is talking like a lawyer?

Both. an endorser can be liable for civil fraud and criminal acts. Depends on the details of her arrangement and the depth of her involvement. That's why she should see a lawyer.

> So now you're a law professor too?

No, merely a law student. But I take the bar examination soon and - if I pass - I hope the classes in criminal law I took at law school will provide me with enough ability to know a criminal case when I see one.

I do not know the exact details about this apparent blatent fraud. It may be a civil matter, it may also be criminal. Endorsers have a liability either way - limitged, but one I would worry about. I believe Pat Boone got his hands slapped for selling worthless desert a few years back.

Huge difference in the law between puffery and fraud.

Fraud laws apply to washed up actresses resorting to walking the streets for timeshares, too.

Man you're harsh... Who're you trying to impress...

Re: Lock her up, baby

Yeah, what's your problem with Tanya Roberts? Give it a rest.
I can see we have the potential makings of another idiot lawyer
here.

You and 91, and obviously it worked.

See you in court.

I guess The Bun Boy, Mad Greek Cafe, and the Tanger Outlet Malls in Barstow all have huge advertising budgets! :)

Actually I would suspect that Vegas casinos are a big chunk of ad revs for those stations....anyone know?

Impressed, no, not in the least. You really need to re-think
the way you attempt to get attention. Sad is more like it.
"In court" Yeah right, you know "so much" about the law.
And it would seem even less about radio.

Isn't there a > in-house legal department to vet something that > reeks of bait and switch type deception?I hear this a lot on Fox Sports Radio and the Jim Rome show, so this is airing on a nationwide basis. In fact, Fox's Chris Myers and JT the Brick often do spots with Tanya together.
...Roberts also did a custom spot with Tom Leykis that's been running on his show for a few months now...

Tanya Roberts ....

The State of Nevada Real Estate Department of Commerce has to approve all advertisments for time shares etc.. the exact wording..and the exact wording of any presentation given ....even if the ads run outside Nevada....of course they are on the "side" of someone hawking Real Estate in Nevada..."Soillie" or something like that sold out and now they are selling Tahihti Villiage, just down the street....as much as people like Bruce Williams and Horowitz ...consumer activists lobby against timeshares people can't get enough of them....as for Roberts ....who cares if she helps rips off a bunch of chumps as long as she keeps wearing that loin cloth on TV reruns

Phil Hendrie is running custom spots with Tanya too.
