AREN'T DAVE 92.9 OR ROCK 100.5 THE ONES MOST LIKELY TO SWITCH TO OLDIES

Seeing as WYAY is constantly above both Dave & Rock 100.5, and there will be a hole there once
WYAY goes all news...............aren't these the stations mostly likely to go oldies (and improve
their ratings in the process)?

Do their coverage areas appear to be any better than WYAY and capable of providing an even
larger oldies audience?

Dave, perhaps. They've got a big signal and CBS has a track record of success with the Classic Hits format. I could see this better than news on 92.9 now.

Or 92.9 could wreck Cumulus' plans and switch Dave to All-News before 106.7 flips to News, Just a thought...
If CBS did just a feed of CBS News until they could put together a local news operation, I could see that. But they don't have time to put together the local operation first.

Rick 100.5? No. Why would Cumulus blow up an oldies station to immediately flip a different format to oldies?
I could see Cumulus moving AGH to 97.9 or maybe even 98.9. It's a day of reckoning for a pair of formats on sister stations that overlap quite a bit.

Some kind of album rock format will remain on 100.5, even if it's the return of 99X or a new active rock format. TRG does too well for Cumulus for them to get rid of them, and they just inked a new contract.

Agreed 100%.

I will say this, though. Cumulus is *insane* if they don't do something with Rock 100.5's underperforming p.o.s format. Sports, Guy Talk, Alternative Rock, anything would be better than the garbage music format the station currently runs.

If CBS changes dave-fm to classic hits it would probably allow Rock 100.5 to change their sound a little to get some old dave listeners. And the guy who runs CBS used to work at 92.9 when it was Z93 so that seems like a good bet to happen.

I can't see oldies going on a STRONGER signal at 92.9. That wouldn't make much sense. If oldies gets picked up, it will probably be to a weaker signal, like 100.5.

But if Rock 100.5 were to dump the rock format for oldies, I could see the return of a more rock oriented format on 92.9. Maybe take on the River with an extended playlist. Maybe they even pick up the Regular Guys if 100.5 drops them.

Z93 was NOT classic hits, it was classic rock, correct? Rock 100.5 is also classic rock but Z93 had a much larger playlist and got really deep into the progressive rock like Electric Light Orechestra, Kansas and Yes. I besides 1 or 2 top hits from each artist, neither River nor Rock hits it.

Rock 100.5 should either go oldies or 99x and Dave should go classic rock with more variety than the current selections we have in the city.

Z93 was a hit radio Top 40 station before it was a classic rock, and a classic hits station plays a lot of the hits of the 70s and 80s. Done right with good personalities on a powerful frequency it would probably do better than was is now on 92.9. And they could move the dave format to online or hd-2.

I as many others, would love that, and bring back some of the old jingles, this station is so boring in its current state.

Z93 was classic rock and did go deep after they flipped from CHR.

Z-93 was a very successful top 40 before they went classic rock (and dropped the hyphen). How many stations have been successful going to oldies classic hits while using throwback branding and imaging?

Would any of the personalities be available? Ross Brittain, Randy Reeves, Dale O'Brien? Or have all of them hung up their cans for good? Ross Brittain is still on the air and with CBS to boot. http://www.linkedin.com/pub/ross-brittain/8/178/196 . Randy Reeves is doing VOs. http://www.linkedin.com/pub/randy-reeves/22/4b2/403 . Where is Dale O'Brien (seriously)?

Heck, could CBS use this as a core for a networked feed to give Cumulus's TOC a run for its money?

I liked the Classic rock Z 93 especially the PM drive guy (Bob Bailey?). Just about every station I tune to: Z93, Cool 105.7, Peach 94.9, 96 Rock, Lake 102, 100.1 and 106.7 (just to name a few) get flipped. May be I should offer a service, if you are a radio operator and have a competing station you can't beat in the ratings, just "hire" me to listen to it, with in two years it will be flipped!

I don't know what the imaging is but I did see that if you look at some Top 10 markets you can see that WCBS-FM/NYC, K-Earth/LA, WOGL/Philadelphia and WODS/Boston are now all doing well for CBS since their return.

Also WLS-FM/Chicago changed to Oldies a couple years ago and are doing well for Cumulus, Cox is doing it in Houston and Clear Channel is doing it in San Francisco so this format must be making some money.
