At about 6:25 AM I heard the following.. Im assuming these are Double HOP Es considering the Distance.. 94.5...DANCE MUSIC.. NO ID, but assuming this is,, was Vegas's Dance Vybe 94.5 considering the music and the locations and IDs of the other stations. 92.9 Country,,, Several Mentions of Arizona, but I didnt get a positive ID on this one either. 98.3 KKFR...Rap Music .. Phoenix, POSITIVE ID... 101.1.. Heard them say The Beat of Arizona,,More Rap Music... 98.5 CHR RHYTHMIC.. NO ID, But Assume it was KLUC in Vegas... 97.5 KVEG.. Positive ID.. Vegas..... 97.9.. THE BOX,, RAP MUSIC,, Heard station name, but unknown location.

Even though this isnt the farthest or clearest ive heard Es,, it is the most amazing considering the dial congestion and Terrain. I have heard Spain in South Carolina, but its not that surprising with a straight shot across the flat salt water, with no other stations in between. At Myrtle Beach SC, I heard both LOCA FM and Candena FM, both strong enough to light up the RDS.

Ive been so lucky with DX this summer, last year I didnt catch any Es at all. Of course no one was in the car with me to prove it.,, I told my Parents about it, and all they said was,, OH Really,,, In other words they could care less.

This is the first time ever in Indiana that I have received anything farther west than Denver, or farther south than Miami,,, Although Texas and Mexico I have caught plenty of times.

Even though this station wasn't in the same region you were getting the others, 97.9 The Box was probably KBXX in Houston, TX.

Probably so,, considering thats still in the south west.

BTW just about an hour ago I received another one that was my first catch, but I think it was just tropo cause the rest of the dial was clear, it was 106.9 Double X,, Playing 80s format, or maybe classic hits.

92.9 was probably KAFF Flagstaff, but there are country stations in Artesia NM and Sun City CA on this frequency as well.

101.1 is KNRJ, a Phoenix rimshot licensed to Payson.

98.3 KKFR is another Phoenix rimshot, licensed to Mayer.

Why is it that Indiana is such a hot spot for DX? is it cause its just kinda in the middle of everything, or is it good ground conductivity, or because we have such hot humid days, and then cool nights and foggy morings. Also I hope no one minds that i post DX logs here, I do it because this is home, and you guys know my location and you can share your DX stories and help ID stations.. The DX board is cool and all, but they often dont know my location and the weather conditions and terrain and distances .....locations.

I used to see/hear a lot of E-skip, mostly from Florida or the mountain states (my farthest was KTVK Ch 3 Phoenix, IIRC) when I lived in Bloomington in the '60s and early '70s. Now that I'm in Phoenix, I can't remember the last time I saw any E-skip - maybe 7 or 8 years ago. Being 5 miles from the South Mountain antenna farm and its 100 kW FM sticks (no more low-VHF stations, though) may have something to do with that, however.

You probably heard WXXC in Marion, IN. They're a 70s-80s based classic hits station that goes by "106.9 Double X-C."

Yeah that was it,, I thought it was double X E,, but Double XC sounds right.. How much Power?

This is fun to read. Takes me back to when the Pacers were good and I knew exactly where to place my grandma's clock radio in her house in Somerset, Kentucky to hear WIBC. I know it's AM, but it was a thrill to hear it when I was a kid. I used to flip around the AM dial to try to listen to the opposing team's play-by-play and many times got lucky enough to hear NY, SA, and more.

I've heard KAFF 92.9/Flagstaff here...my farthest catch. Excellent DX clubber!

I was in Logansport last Sunday morning and I picked up 99.5 KISS Rocks, San Antonio, TX, and was able to hold the station for almost a half an hour on a factory radio in an '05 Honda Odyssey.

Got any tapes of what you heard? My DX buddy in Illinois (who's been at the FM dials continuously since 1970 and is extremely knowledgeable regarding the hobby) would love to hear documentation for the following reasons :

* 6:25AM is a most unusual time for E-Skip to occur.

* DXSherlock.com showed no trace of any E-Skip at 50mhz on that time & date, much less in the FM band.

* No other DXers reported any E-Skip at that time and date.

I once picked up channel 6 in houston over WRTV (WFBM). Also picked up a station in Cuba once (in Jackson Co), think it was channel 2.

There was strong skip in Indiana yesterday. But, I had tropo not E skip, and was hearing
South Bend, Fort Wayne, and Lafayette between Bloomington and Martinsville on SR 37.

I had south central and southern Indiana later north of Lafayette. It was very strong
north to south tropo which is very common this time of year.

Clubber I've got to be a little skeptical too. I've never seen/heard e-skip much before 10am EDT....you have to have some serious sun action for it even to happen. Haven't seen much past 11pm either. Arizona is in the news; I can see almost anyone having a mention of Arizona or three in a newscast or other radio show.

These fantastic reception reports seem to favor Dance Formats.

Incredible! My engineer says e-skip is not the only way to get

long distance on FM. You can also do it with line of sight from a

great height. So, maybe it would help if YOU ARE REALLY HIGH.

This isn't the first time clubber has landed a whale of a catch. Far juicier catch back in March 2009...amazingly enough, the format was....drum roll please...dance music!

Im not sure if this holds the record, im sure better and farther has been done, but me and my EX Crack Head girlfriend had an argument, and I went out to the car about 100 feet from the Ocean.... I had an old JVC CD Player,,, CD player didnt work and it really wasnt a very sensitive radio,, but it had an international tuner that could tune to frequencies like 100.0,,,, and it also had RDS, which usually did not work... But anyway, tuning through the dial and stopped on 99.1 was Dance Music playing,, i thought it was a pirate at first, but then the RDS starting to blink on and Revealed Loca FM, which is from Madrid Spain... Farther up the dial on 100.0 revealed an extremely strong station, no static and the RDS was solidly reading Candena, or Cadena FM, also in Spain, with I think an AC format if memory serves me right... To this day no one believes me,, Id like to find out if there is any way to find out how much Power these two stations where throwing out, and how far Myrtle Beach South Carolina is from Madrid?Huh
