Arlene Violet/Dave Layman seeking to buy local radio station

And if it is indeed WALE they're looking at, read my reply to Walter's post.

If they're willing to sink the time and money into the transmitter site fixup as I noted in my reply to Walter's WALE is for real post, they have a chance. One other thing they should do is dump the call letters and and go for getting the WLKW calls back from Hall, or choose from WEAN, WICE, or WRIB as the call. News before the hour wouldn't hurt either.

Dave,
I agree WEAN and WICE would be the way to go.
When one thinks of WALE, they think of 'Crazies'.
It was truly the worst talk radio. Walter.

My years of experience, a good part of them in Providence and surrounds says it would be a mistake to bring back ANY old call. Enough people with memories and expectations based on those calls. Something completely new and somehow related to the "new" programming would carry no baggage and attract interest beyond: "Ho Hum....here we goes again".

Holland, you're nearly as old as am I and with experience in multiple markets....whaddya think?

Or WLAY. No, NO probably not!
What other letter groupings are available I wonder?

I would also like to see 'Locals' owning talk radio stations.

Arlene having once been a lawyer, how about "WRIT"?

(Rhode Island Talk)(judicial document) and who can think of more....

Y'know, they may want to look further into that! A quick check of the FCC database shows there is a WRIT-FM in Milwaukee but NO AM with the WRIT call. No prohibition against the use on an AM even when not co-owned with the FM, especially being in a distant city.

I feel just too damned clever today.....

Some call letters just sound better than others. WRIT doesn't sound good to me. Maybe it's a little to close to WRUT. Nobody wants that place to end up in a "RUT" again. I simply don't like WRIT. Those calls do not have success written on them. My vote has been registered.

There WAS this station proposed not too long ago (not for Rhode Island) that was to be all raunch all the time.....borderline lyric songs, "personl" ads.... But I don't think it'd fly around Providence. Provincetown, perhaps......
