I happen to know all of the people that were involved in the QID promo. It's scary how close the show was to reality.

Oh, do please share details of said promo!

When I say how close the show was to reality I mean the whole series and not just the turkey episode. Obviously some things were greatly exagerated but the characters and events were based on the actual QID people and things that happened over the years. The actual turkey episode, as it was related to me by a former high level employee, involved driving through neighborhoods handing out free turkeys. These were not live turkeys. Apparently in one neighborhood, there were so many people trying to get a free turkey that a near riot broke out and people were fighting over the turkeys, ripping them apart as they were trying to get one.

The gentleman I knew and worked for was the person on whom Herb Tarlek was based. He was a "snappy" dresser and kept his pair of white buck shoes on display in his office. The "big guy" was based on the actual GM and they looked like twins when you saw them together.

The show was conceived of and mostly written by a former QID employee who one day declared he was leaving QID to go to Hollywood and become a writer. The rest is history.

RadeoEngineer, I wouldn't trust what the guy told you.

There are as many stories that are supposedly the "real story" behind it as there are bad songs by Barry Manilow. Google for it and you'll find myriad "real stories" behind the episode. I'd give this one the leading edge because of the tie-in with some of the WKRP people and WQXI:

http://www.tv.com/wkrp-in-cincinnati/turkeys-away/episode/18540/summary.html

But there are others...

Well, except he worked there at the time of the actual promotion and it was shared with me on a corporate dinner cruise by both him and the gentleman who was GM at the time.

The one I linked to matches what I had recounted to me by others associated with the show at the time, including 2 actors. It wouldn't make much sense for it to be about a van delivering turkey dinners.

Hey guys... Thought you would like to know I have a website that contains airchecks, pics from the stations I managed. Especially memorable are WVMI-WQID. I would like to have former alumni share their pics and airchecks.

Goto: www.BOBLIMARADIO.COM

I'd like to here from you.
