(1010 WINS) (OCEAN TOWNSHIP, N.J.) Ocean Township police have questioned a man suspected of blasting an air horn into the ear of a TV reporter during a live report.

A man carrying a bumper sticker for the Opie and Anthony program on XM satellite lunged at WABC TV's Anthony Johnson during a report on Tuesday's snowstorm.

The station cut away so viewers never heard the horn go off in Johnson's ear.

Police spoke to the man, but have not released his name because he has not been charged.

The New York TV station is deciding whether to pursue charges.

Opie and Anthony have an ongoing contest called "Assault on the Media'' in which listeners are encouraged to disrupt live reports by waving Opie and Anthony signs. The contest rules tell listeners not to touch reporters or pick fights.

XM issued a statement, calling the incident an irresponsible act of an individual.

Acting Governor Codey says the person should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."


As much as I do agree with their distaste for the general media, and I think they are better than Howard, I don't think they should be held responsible for idiots. I love the Assault on the Media, but when you do something that could cause harm like that...the fan should be banned for being stupid

When you have these two idiots inciting people to do things, you may have a conspiracy. These two idiots need to be prosecuted and sued to the fullest extent of the law. It is not funny what they do, especially when people get hurt. The idiots who do these things, I think speaks volumes on the intelligence of their listeners.

They said the listener went too far blowing the air horn and after talks with management, Assault on the Media has been killed

Oh yeah, because the top of the line listener are tuning into Rush (drug addict), O'Reilly (sexual harrassment/phone sex), Pat O'Brien (drug addict/sexual harrassment/phone sex), Geraldo Rivera (too many issues to list, but we'll start with bad fake cry-acting), Martha Stewart (felony conviction), Larry King & Barbara Walters (whose SCATHING IN-DEPTH questioning would dent a marshmallow first?). If you're going to sue them, sue their sponsors since the show was getting some prize sponsorship yada yada yada. The rules set forth by O&A were clear and just like EVERYTHING some idiot ruins it by not recognizing the line not to cross. Just PLEASE don't act like anyone is more highbrow than the other or listeners are of lower calibur. When you peel the skin of the onion back, none of them are much better than the other. I would never compare them to Jennings or the like, but they fit a niche. Just because they weren't reporting on goverment cover ups on-air and sexually harrassing a coworker on the phone behind the scenes shouldn't degrade them as entertainers. They went for marketing and some idiot blew it. Again, like a lot of things, idiots ruin it for the general public.

I beg to differ, allforadeuce. If I ask thousands of people to do something that they wouldn't ordinarily do, and I do it publicly, I need to consider how people will act. O&A didn't make their fan go too far, but they set the ball rolling. There will always be irresponsible people, and whether you like O&a or not, I think it's fair to say that they cater to the irreverent. And, unfortunately, at times that will mean stupid and irreverent.

Which is exactly what it was. Opie and Anthony encourage mischief, but they clearly draw the line at assault. Shouting at a reporter or holding up a sign to get on TV is practically a national pasttime at this point, and that's all O&A ever said to do. They were probably smart to call off the "Assault on the Media" though, as it's lost its appeal after this incident.

How slow a day was this? The GOVERNOR of New Jersey issued a statement about a reporter getting an air horn blown in is ear. Blowing this just a little out of proportion here? Of course, this is the same governor who threatened a radio personality

Point taken, and I do understand that O&A can be viewed upon as the men at the top of the mountain that started the snowball rolling downhill. Yet, in ALL walks of life in ALL areas, there are people who are responsible, and there are people that aren't. Why their type of listeners are being held to a lower standard is quite insulting to me. Not all heavy metal heads are idiots as well as all Celine Dion listeners are not saints. It is just old and tired to be labelled. That is what ticked me off the most.

It's Howard Stern ripoff time. Yawn... so much for their former creative outrageousness.

How pathetic is the state of New Jersey that THE GOVERNOR would actually comment on a moronic story like this. Even the governor of Rhode Island wouldn't be bothered with an opinion on something like this, but here is more evidence that something is very wrong in the state of NJ on so many levels.

It's a publicity stunt. It will happen again with some other wacko zoo crew. Nothing any of us will say here will make one bit of difference. If the reporter's hearing was actually damaged, and we don't have proof of that, his personal injury attorney will exact appropriate retribution.

I don't listen to O&A because I grew up a few decades ago, but I don't think they should be fired because moron fans went nutty.
