As New Owners Scramble To Take Over KLYQ Missoula, The Station Is Only On-Air One Hour Per Week.

Wow this is an interesting one to have a radio station that is on 1 hour per week. Note this is due to the Townsquare deal with Cherry Creek that is waiting for approval.

News/talk KLYQ Missoula (1240), one of the spinoffs from Townsquare Media’s $18.7 million purchase of Cherry Creek Radio, is temporarily broadcasting only one hour a

eek. To gain regulatory approval, Townsquare sold KLYQ, along with CHR “New 106.7” KXDR, rhythmic CHR “107.5 Zoo FM” KENR and “Fox Sports Radio 1450” KYLT, to Anderson Broadcasting for $150,000. Due to the quick approval and closing of the Townsquare/Cherry Creek deal, KLYQ’s new owners were caught off guard and have yet to fully take over the operations of the stations.

First announced in late March, the deal wasn’t expected to close until third quarter 2022. But only days after getting the greenlight from the Federal Communications Commission, Townsquare Media closed the Cherry Creek purchase June 21.

Kind of weird. Presumably KYLQ wasn't really originating many local programs. So not clear why Anderson couldn't just load up the computer with the regular syndicated talk programs and let it ride, even if that meant PSAs or test tones airing during local breaks.

KLYQ AM 1240 is down in Hamilton so not really a factor in Missoula. But Wow! Talk about an over-radio'd market. I remember the days of KGVO, KYLT , KYSS, and KGMY...that was it. Now it's wall-to-wall with translators, pubcasters, and full-power stations, several of which are rimshotting into the city.
